Urban public space has become one of the main infrastructures for informal sports in cities. However, despite the high impact of that practice, local records only show the sports activity at the urban spaces specifically designed and regulated for that purpose. More information about where this practice arises and what attributes of urban space promote it would allow the adoption of specific measures in urban and sports policies. This paper proposes a methodology mainly based on the mapping of this informal sport activity and urban places where it appears by local communities and sportspeople. These collaborative maps are supported by the use of geographical information system (GIS) technologies and surveys on local communities. The research establishes a double objective of identifying urban spaces where citizens perform outdoor sports and deepen the knowledge of the physical attributes of public spaces that promote sports and local demands related to public space requirements. This methodology has been tested in the city of Malaga, the European City of Sport 2020, as a reference of a city with a growing outdoors’ sport activity. The main contribution is focused on the use of new tools that offer subjective information: opinions and habits of citizens in relation to sport urban practice. This information—which is difficult to obtain through other resources—should be considered for the design of urban and sports policies according to citizens’ demands.

Virtual reality (VR) has achieved an adequate level of development in education and research in higher education The training in Architecture requires a reflection on the incorporation of new design technologies at the Degree and Master’s level, due, in part, to the dissatisfaction of the students with the poor implementation of these technologies. The pedagogical possibilities of VR are very high. The aim of this paper is to propose a transversal methodology for several subjects in the same semester. It consists of the virtual recreation of a work of relevant architecture in the history of contemporary Architecture. The possibilities of implementing VR in the architectonic subjects are analyzed. This methodology takes advantage of the potential of this technology to create a transversal educational activity, for different subjects and areas of knowledge in the same academic year. Subsequently, the different phases for its implementation are described in terms of activities and scenarios. The paper concludes that transversal methodology offers the opportunity to analyze the same building from different disciplines, checking the interrelation between them, and saves time for the student in completing teaching assignments.

The current pressure on the built historical heritage requires a global evaluation to develop strategies for its preservation. A combined vision of the state of conservation of architectural heritage is essential to highlight the vulnerabilities of the structure from which harmonized measures can be proposed for its mitigation. This study proposes a multi-criteria analysis methodology that considers a qualitative and quantitative approach to organize the global conservation state of heritage buildings hierarchically. A global index can be determined on the basis of the generation of an interoperable data matrix by defining a set of indicators to assess different components of a building. This index describes the risk with respect to the stability, safety, and habitability of the building. This methodology aims to achieve the state of the building in an integral way by obtaining a simple and objective index that enables efficient comparison among different buildings. The application of this methodology to a historic area allows creating a hierarchical map of risk to stablish priorities for intervention and enable a sustainable and critical management and planning over the actions of maintenance, conservation, and restoration. In this way, a holistic vision of the complex reality of built heritage and the urban landscape is obtained to identify critical areas of priority intervention.

The cruise industry has become a significant component of the Mediterranean tourism economy over the past several years. The use of a tourist destination region calls for an increase in the number of medium-distance trips from the ports of call to the tourist attractions of the hinterland; thus, its accessibility should acquire a relevant role for its enhancement and viability. The development of a sustainable model of tourist mobility requires analysing the potential use of public transport by cruise passengers to access the hinterland. This paper proposes a model of estimated times using the Google Maps platform to compare public transport with traditional ‘tourist buses’ and cars. The results confirm the potential of regionalisation of main cruise destinations, and promoting bicycles for tourist use is recommended as a key strategy to increase the use of public transport.

Although the Bologna’s process has highlighted the need to develop deep and structural changes in the educational institutions, there is a scarce bibliography on innovation projects in Master Degree Projects, specifically in the field of Architecture. This paper is part of a educational innovative reaserch project that is proposing a cooperative process-and-product model-based for MDP. The model is developed in three stages, from collaborative learning action groups to indivual project. At the end of the process the student has developed three documents: a presentation, a product and a daily-portfolio. Finally, MDP assessment is the sum of three evaluations

The tourist development along the Mediterranean coast, especially on the coast of Spain, France and Italy, has caused a huge urban expansion and consolidation of a highly densified harbour front. The environmental consequences should bring about the future growth of the existing system of ports through its re-qualification development. The article provides a list of 6 strategies for the future improvement of ports that correspond to the areas of research in the international port literature. These ideas had been deeply developed in previous works from different disciplines, but they are now put together in order to offer a general vision of the debate: (1) marine strategy and integrated coastal management, (2) sustainable port infrastructures, (3) port networking initiatives, (4) regionalization of ports, (5) urban and landscape connectivity, and (6) social integration of ports. The text collects some literature on each of the views and suggests throughout the topics some ideas to be considered for existing ports in general and specifically for the Spanish Mediterranean ports.

With the development of Geographic Informational System (GIS), contemporary art mapping is emerging as a powerful tool for analysing and understanding the complex and subjective nature of mature tourist destinations. This paper explores the potential of implementing GIS for mapping Benalmádena (Costa del Sol, Spain), by proposing two methods of analysis with two graphic examples: first, an ecstatic-objective mapping of the cartography of water, based on a new expressive approach arising from the comparison of coastlines and pools; second, a dynamic-subjective mapping defining the touristic emotion mapping, which maps the opinions from TripAdvisor’s website. The mappings demonstrate: the destination’s transformation from sun-and-beach tourism to sun-and-water tourism, tourist clusters, and tourists’ preferred public spaces.
