The current COVID-19 pandemic situation has a very significant impact on urban mobility, as evidenced by fundamental changes in passengers’ behavior. In many cases, passengers have switched to other modes of transport to minimize the risk of infection (particularly cycling and walking). This paper aims to point out the analysis results of the impacts of a bike-sharing system in the city of Košice before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, this paper describes an analysis of the current state of bike-sharing in the Slovak Republic. We have stated a timeline of significant dates related to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 had a significant impact on people’s mobility and bike-sharing, as evidenced by the graphs and results in this paper.

Parking is a problem in many cities. Usually, it is not possible to build new parking lots due to insufficient available areas. This paper focuses on the parking situation in Slovak city Žilina. The authors carried out an extensive traffic survey in private and city-owned parking lots. Not only were occupancy data collected, but also the opinions of the drivers who parked there. The second half of the paper is based on results from the survey. It includes a proposal of the new intelligent parking system which can improve the efficiency of parking. This system is proposed in flowcharts and also described. The intelligent parking system with guidance to a free parking space can improve the traffic situation in cities. Drivers find a free parking space faster, which reduces congestion and various other negative externalities. On the other hand, the system has high acquisition costs and other problems. These issues of smart parking solutions are also discussed in the paper.

The main aim of this paper is to point out the assumptions of motorway operation effects on local transport. We assume positive effects of starting motorway operation on the specific section of road I/11. This section connects the cities of Žilina and Čadca. It is considered as one of the most problematic sections of the Slovak Republic because of the high intensity of individual transport and freight or cargo transport. This transport issue is growing beyond the regional level and is reaching alarming proportions. It needs to be solved as soon as possible. One of the available possibilities is to start the operation of the mentioned motorway D3. We have created a simulation model of a current state and also the state with the motorway. We have used intensities from the last national traffic census as basic inputs for simulation. These intensity values have been recalculated by relevant growth coefficients defined in Technical Conditions no. 102. Based on the results of a dynamic simulation, we have compared the average speed, delay times, and the length of congestions in two scenarios—the current state and effects of motorway operation.

This paper focuses on the statistical evaluation of two independent research tools in the field of traffic psychology. Our research focuses on young drivers in the Slovak Republic and conducts an international comparison. At present, these young drivers make up only about 7% of the total number of drivers, but they cause about 20% of accidents. The paper analyzes the traffic accident rate of young as well as inexperienced drivers. All drivers in the survey had a short period of driving experience. The traffic-psychological survey obtained detailed data via two independent tools. We aimed to find relations between the factors and subfactors of the tools used, namely the BIS-11 (Barratt Impulsiveness Scale) and DAQ (Driver Attitude Questionnaire). The researchers also used these tools in other countries, so it was possible to compare the results obtained. The results from these tools should reveal the psychological causes of as many traffic accidents as possible. Our paper shows the possibilities for the evaluation of the tools used with correlation analysis. The results of our research are shown in symmetrical matrixes of correlation coefficients. Our study also compares its values with the results of foreign authors. Such research has revealed some facts about young drivers’ violations connected with drunk driving, speeding, and other traffic offenses. Our aim was to find connections between the driver’s history (skills, traffic accidents, age, etc.) and psychological characteristics, and we have answered several research questions. In conclusion, we have highlighted the most significant relationships between the factors of driver psychology.

While a vehicle is driving, the air filter is gradually being clogged. Thus, there is a condition for air mass delivered into the engine’s cylinders to be reduced. It can further degrade the vehicle’s ability to accelerate and, therefore, have an impact on road driving safety, or it can eventually make a vehicle performance worse or cause a change in the exhaust gas composition. The article pays attention to the impact of clogged air filter on selected vehicle characteristics including a vehicle’s dynamic features, fuel consumption and composition of the exhaust gases. The measurements have been performed under laboratory conditions. For higher result objectivity, the measurements have been done under some extreme conditions as well, with both the air filter fully clogged and forced air induction. The importance of the article lies in quantification of the impact of clogged air filter on selected vehicle features. The results from this article show a relatively low impact of air filter on the features studied. The biggest differences were measured under extreme conditions when the air filter had been almost fully clogged, or the air had been delivered into the engine under pressure.

The article is focused on parking in the spa town of Rajecké Teplice. Spa towns are attractive in terms of transport and attract traffic. The most frequently used mode of transport is the individual automobile transport. The increasing number of visitors of Rajecké Teplice is also causing an increase in the number of cars and parking demand. A common problem for cities is the lack of space and land ownership to build new parking spaces. The result is parking on the streets, public space and green areas, which harms the environment and retrench the traffic flow and other participants of transport. A survey of the number of parking vehicles, the average length of parking and the purpose of parking was carried out in the town. The inhabitants of the town also expressed their opinion on the situation with parking in the questionnaire. The outputs of this questionnaire are given in the article. Based on the results of the survey and a questionnaire, solutions were proposed to improve the parking in the spa town of Rajecké Teplice.

Transport is an inseparable part of the life of all citizens. At the beginning of the year, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. Individual states have taken strict measures to prevent its spread among the population. Due to this fact, the government of the Slovak Republic has issued restrictions on the closure of public spaces (schools, shopping centres, restaurants, bars, etc.). These restrictions have had an impact not only on the economic activity of the population but also on their mobility in the form of reduced traffic. This is due to the drastically reduced mobility associated with the coronavirus, such as commuting trips and extremely limited leisure opportunities. Reduced mobility of the population (reduction of the number of vehicles in the traffic flow) can bring positive effects not only on overloaded road network (increased vehicle speed, lower flow) but also on the environment (reduction of noise, emissions, etc.). This article aims at finding out what effect the measures taken had on the quality of traffic flow. The quality of movement was examined in the form of the flow and speed of vehicles on one of the busiest first-class road sections. Descriptive statistics were used to examine the state of the restrictions. The results show that after the introduction of measures against the spread of coronavirus, the intensity and speed of vehicles in the measured section decreased.

The dramatic increase in automobile transport over the last few decades has often led to the degradation of a basic element of the urban space – streets, the essential part of every urban area – to simple transport corridors. Life in the street is a dramatic stage on which we all are participating actors. The meaning of streets goes beyond the fact that they lead somewhere else and thus hold the city together, but the streetscape has a meaning in and of itself – we are out in the street because we want to be there. Like other components of the urban space, streets have a spatial dimension but, perhaps uniquely, also have their temporal element. In my contribution I would like to characterize a street in a town and its role in the modern way of life. Streets and public spaces are important elements that make up a city. The rapid increase of number of vehicles brought changes in the character and function of the street space. The streets were perceived primarily as a space reserved for transport, to the detriment of its residential, social and aesthetic function. Vehicles in motion and mainly parked cars gradually occupied a larger part of public areas and they do not allow other activities.

A high-quality network is currently a prerequisite for sustainable transport systems. The sharp increase in automobile traffic has resulted in increased transport problems. The most serious transport problems include traffic infrastructure congestion, increased accident risk and of course environmental impact. Daily mobility and securing the transport of goods is one of the key transport objectives. The most critical point of the road network is the intersection. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on the vehicle to pass smoothly and safely when passing through this place. In this paper an analysis of the current status of the selected roundabout is created. Based on the survey it is proposed three solutions to improve the traffic conditions of the intersection. Aimsun micro-simulation was also used to create solutions.

The paper deals with carpooling - a system of road passenger transport, which is based on the principle of sharing seats in personal vehicle. It is very popular system in various forms in the Slovak Republic. We also describe the differences between carpooling and other related systems. It is necessary to have reliable communication channel between drivers and passengers. For this reason, we have focused on a detailed review of online booking systems. One of our goals was to compare the booking sites from the view of driver and passenger, but also analyse the data from this sites. We have also calculated the fixed and variable costs and compared them with the average returns that are shown on the booking sites. Based on the practical experience of using this system, we have developed case studies on routes between specific cities in Slovakia. These results are processed in the article. At last, we have made recommendations, which can improve the competitiveness of this system.

There is a roundabout connecting the road II/513 and Priemyselná Street near the town of Hlohovec. It connects the D1 motorway with the nearby industrial zone, the shopping centre Váh and the town of Hlohovec. Roundabout are located on roads both in urban and rural areas. Most traffic surveys only measure traffic flow within specific time intervals. However, the data on traffic flow is not enough to create the correct and complete traffic model. In addition to traffic flow, it is necessary to know other characteristics of the traffic flow, especially the speed, which is extremely important. Traffic flow and speed are the basic characteristics of the traffic flow. Traffic density can be calculated using these two variables.

At present, it is possible to see an increase in car traffic on roads in EU. This trend is caused by still growing demand for transport. This is resulting in a gradual increase in road traffic intensity, congestions and traffic accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to use current road network and build a new, which satisfies the present and future requirements for transport in area. Despite the large investments in the development of infrastructure, the traffic situation is getting worse. The most problematic places in the traffic infrastructure are junctions. In the recent past the circular junctions were highly preferred, but are they also good at increasing traffic? In our article, we analyze the highly loaded circular junction in the city of Hlohovec. We have suggested its solutions with microsimulation.

Urban public transport is a system of mass transit of passengers within the range of urbanized territory within a single municipality or city. Urban public transport operates in inhabited areas, most often in cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants and is indispensable in cities with more than 40,000 inhabitants. Urban public transport varies based on the size of the city, the location of the individual facilities in that city, the lifestyles of the city’s inhabitants, the nature of the form of settlement and the size of the catchment area. Currently, there is a major problem of service failure mostly in city centres. Inappropriate conditions for the transport of persons cause congestion, and hence the time losses of all users of means of transport. For this reason, it is necessary to ensure quality, fast, safe and dynamic transport for people. There are several ways to achieve this and one is the public transport priority.

Sustainable development of road infrastructure has been the most discussed issue in Slovakia in few last years. Mainly in bigger cities road infrastructure is overloaded and ceases to satisfy the needs of road users. There is many possibilities how to solve this issue. We can build new roads and connections between points of interest (origin and destination) but this solution is not acceptable in every area of Slovakia because of lack of space and environment protection as well as financing. Solution, that is more suitable, is to use intelligent transport systems and try to reorganizing some transport routes in the most overloaded sections. We have used software Aimsun to simulate new traffic conditions and evaluate their effects on traffic situation. In our contribution, we focused on difficult traffic situation in the city of Lučenec. We made a microscopic simulation and compared a current state and a new traffic organization using software Aimsun.

The development of the Internet has enabled interconnection of products, services and people into one unit by means of so called Internet of Things. Technologies like the Internet, transfer of information, data processing and booming development in electronics and informatics make it possible to create a completely different picture of our towns and to create a phenomenon of recent years - Smart City. A psychological impact on people is highly important. What to do so that people change their behavior and begin to behave responsibly to the environment? The sharing economy is a concept of social changes of people in the 21st century who do not need to own the things of daily use and, thanks to the existing offer of various communication tools, are able to make use of joint products. In our contribution, we will sketch out economy of car sharing, bicycle sharing, public transport and possibilities of using these systems in our consumer society. What possibilities of influencing behavior of road users traffic psychology has.

The main objective of Slovakia’s transport policy is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and increase safety on our roads. Implementation of intelligent transport systems presents one of the possibilities how to meet this goal. Acceptance of these systems by motor vehicle drivers and other road traffic participants is necessary in order for them to fulfill their purpose. Only if the drivers will accept intelligent transport systems, it is possible to flexibly and effectively manage road traffic flexibly and effectively. From the perspective of a driver it concerns, in particular, the possibility of using alternative routes when traffic accidents or other obstacles occurs on the route that would significantly affect the continuity and safety of road traffic. Thanks to these technologies, it is possible to choose the appropriate route while driving, of course based on the criterion, which the driver considers the most important during the transport from origin to destination (driving time, distance from origin to destination, fuel consumption, quality of infrastructure). Information isare provided to the driver through variable message signs or directly in the vehicle (RDS-TMC). Another advantage of intelligent transport systems is a positive impact on psychological well-being of the driver while driving. Additional information about the possible obstacles, weather conditions and dangerous situations that occur on the roads as well as alternative routes are provided to the driver well in advance. This paper is mainly focused on how the drivers perceive the influence of intelligent transport systems in Žilina region.
