Prof. Francesco Petrella is the Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori in Monza and an associate professor of thoracic surgery at the University of Milan, Italy. His current research interests encompass thoracic surgical oncology, regenerative medicine, and the application of stem cell technology to surgery. Clinically, he focuses on locally-advanced resectable lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, chest wall surgery, pleural mesothelioma and ECMO-assisted general thoracic surgery. Prof. Petrella patented two surgical instruments, describing a personal technique for lung metastasectomy; moreover, he performed a bronchoscopic autologous stem cell transplantation for treating post-resectional bronchopleural fistula and described a modified Blalock clamp for pulmonary artery control during lung cancer resection. He serves as an associate editor for the European Journal of Cancer Prevention (EJCP) and he is a member of the Executive Board of the European Cancer Prevention Organization (ECPO). Prof. Petrella is part of the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) Committee for the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).
