Carlos Antunes Viegas has a degree in Veterinary Medicine from University of Lisbon (UL) (1991), a master’s degree in Experimental Research from University of Coimbra (UC) (1997), and a PhD in Veterinary Sciences from University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) (2004). He has lectured in Habilitation in Veterinary Sciences at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) since 2012. His PhD experimental work was developed at Hospital Gomez Ulla in Madrid, Spain, and at the Vienna Medicine Faculty in Austria. At present, he is an Associated Professor in Habilitation, and he is the Head of the Veterinary Science PhD Course of the School of Agrarian and Veterinarian Sciences (ECAV)—UTAD. He won two important national research awards in the field of veterinary and human medicine: the Pfizer Clinical Research Prize 2007, awarded by the Society of Medical Sciences of Lisbon and the Pfizer Award for Veterinary Science in 2005, awarded by the Portuguese Society of Veterinary Science.
