Professor El Semary is a female phycologist who performed research in three different continents. She was awarded her PhD in 2005 from the School of Biological sciences, University of Bristol, UK, and got promoted to Full Professor in 2016. She published more than 55 research papers and 9 international book contributions and refereed three international theses from India. She was awarded several prizes, including one from the African Union, one from Saudi Arabia, and four from Egypt, including the State's incentive award. She won several competitive research grants and two UNESCO fellowships. She supervised 16 postgraduate students, of which 13 were successfully awarded their degrees and 3 are still studying for their degrees. She worked as a reviewer for many ISI scientific journals and participated in many conferences. She was honored several times and participated in several research projects both locally and internationally.
