Short Biography

Prof. Dr. Jerzy Leszczynski, a computational quantum chemist, is a professor of chemistry and President’s Distinguished Fellow at Jackson State University. Dr. Leszczynski attended the Technical University of Wroclaw in Wroclaw, Poland, where he obtained his M.S. (1972) and Ph.D. (1975) degrees. Two areas of his research contributions are most notable: investigations on DNA fragments and the development of novel techniques for the investigation of the properties and toxicity of nanomaterials. He is a recipient of the White House Millennium Award for Teaching and Research Excellence in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering. Since 1992, Dr. Leszczynski has been the chairman of the organizing committee of the Annual International Conference Series on Current Trends in Computational Chemistry, and since 2001, he has been chairman of the organizing committee of the Southern Schools on Computational Chemistry and Material Sciences Series. His research field focus on theoretical studies of hydrogen bonds and the nature of chemical bonds; theoretical predictions of molecular potential energy surfaces and vibrational spectra; structures and properties of molecules with heavy elements; properties and structure of DNA fragments; nanomaterials, including their interactions with biomolecules and toxicity; computational chemistry methods in environmental problems; surface chemistry; and atmospheric chemistry.
