This paper aims at finding the most dominant ideas about the marketing of healthcare systems highlighted in the mainstream literature, with a focus on Russia and Romania. To reach this goal, a systematic analysis of literature was conducted and various competitive advantages and disadvantages of the medical models that require special attention from the governments are considered. In this respect we examined 106 papers published during 2006 to 2020 found on four scientific databases. They were selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria according to PRISMA methodology. The main findings of the research consist of the opportunity to use marketing tools in order to improve the quality of healthcare systems in the named countries. Thus, using market orientation, the managers of healthcare systems could stimulate the innovation, the efficiency of funds allocation and the quality of medical services. The results will lead to a better quality of population life and to an increasing of life expectancy. As this paper reviews some articles from Russian literature, it can add a new perspective to the topic. These outcomes have implications for government, business environment, and academia, which should cooperate in order to develop the healthcare system using marketing strategies.

Visitors’ increasing interest in nature-based and cultural tourism, especially in the context of ecotourism destinations, has generated a heated debate in tourism literature. Some authors consider that ecotourism should be approached through a niche strategy rather than through mass marketing. Therefore, identifying the main characteristics of visitors to ecotourism destinations is very important in setting management and marketing strategies adapted to their specific needs. The present paper aims to identify the profile of visitors to Romanian ecotourism destinations, considering the ecotourism potential of this country and the scarcity of empirical studies on these types of destinations. To reach this aim, a survey was conducted in four Romanian ecotourism destinations. By computing the data collected from a sample of 1157 visitors, four visitor segments have been identified based on a single characteristic (visit purpose). Crosstabulation and Chi-square analysis were used in order to identify the profiles of these segments. The results reveal that most of respondents are nature travellers, followed by culture travellers. The findings may be used by ecotourism destination managers in order to target specific market segments and establish proper management and marketing strategies.

We reviewed 58 empirical articles from the last two decades on experiential marketing in the e-commerce context. This literature review seeks to shed light into the fields of experiential and digital marketing, addressing the gaps in experiential aspects that appear during an online shopping session found in the literature. Thus, the paper identifies the elements that create the optimal consumers’ experience together with advantages, challenges, and strategic advice associated with the overall digital experience, an aspect that develops a more sustainable relationship between customers and e-businesses. The findings reveal that the most reported advantage of the overall digital experience is that it provides enhanced satisfaction, an aspect that is crucial for both consumers and online businesses, while some noted that frequent challenges are providing high levels of interactivity and trust. We found several other advantages and challenges of online consumer experience that led to the outlining of the strategic advice for online businesses, all being discussed in detail. The paper addresses a theoretical framework of digital marketing that is relevant for both academics and practitioners, suggestions for future research directions, and key research implications being offered.

This paper aims at identifying the entrepreneurial opportunities for establishing innovative startups during and post COVID-19 crisis. To reach this goal, we conducted an exploratory study based on semi-structured interviews with 168 students who intend to involve themselves in entrepreneurship in their future career. The research started from the debates in literature regarding the huge negative impact of the COVID-19 crisis on economic development, which can jeopardize the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The research findings confirm the results of other studies regarding the vulnerability of startups during crises, the reason why they have to refocus on innovative businesses, especially based on information and communication technology (ICT). Such businesses are considered incentives of sustainable development. Other ideas highlighted the importance of social entrepreneurship for the management of startups. It means that startups should develop strong relationships with employees but also with other stakeholders, like companies in the same industry, the public sector, academia, and citizens. In addition, changing the business culture aiming at developing green business could be an inexpensive solution for developing a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. These empirical results have implications for both business and the academic environment, which should cooperate in order to overcome the crisis. Such an approach could be used in the long run in order to manage other crises and to develop sustainable business.

The purpose of this paper was to identify collaboration opportunities between one of the most important universities in Romania and companies with production activity within the development region in which this university operates. In order to attain this goal, a survey was conducted to identify the needs of consultancy, expertise, and services for companies that operate in the Centru Development Region of Romania (RO12) and to evaluate the extent to which they are interested in cooperation with Transilvania University of Brasov. In this respect, 3506 companies were included in a panel and their managers were invited to take part in the survey. Finally, a sample of 457 companies was obtained. According to the survey results, the most used consulting services by these companies were the economic and financial ones, but the percentage of companies that have benefited from these services is low. The percentage of interviewed companies that have benefited so far from the consultancy offered by Transilvania University of Brasov is much lower (3.9%). Starting from the research results we proposed an entrepreneurial pilot model for online data analysis, based on the Tableau Public v. 2019.3 software, meant to help companies to do better promotion in order to develop their markets.

The aims of this study are to identify large companies’ role in stimulating local entrepreneurship, and higher education institutions’ contribution of fostering entrepreneurial activity in order to achieve an innovative ecosystem and turning Brasov into a startup city. To address the research questions, exploratory research was conducted among 18 representatives of companies and public institutions active in Brasov city, Romania. The findings confirm that large companies engage startups by collaborative models being also available to outsource a series of activities to entrust the startups with. These collaborations bring many opportunities to startups to scale up faster by using large companies’ resources and the routes to the markets on which they operate. Furthermore, this research reveals the need for a better synergy between education, research, and practice and, consequently, an improvement of the academic curriculum. It also exemplifies the need for joined theory and practice to influence policymakers in developing policies to create a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. The empirical results have implications for both the entrepreneurship literature and entrepreneurship policies.

This article addresses issues regarding the intention of responsible tourism to increase the accessibility of tourist destinations for children with disabilities and their families. The main objective of this research is to identify the barriers that families with disabled children confront during their touristic experiences and to find ways to diminish these barriers. In this respect, qualitative marketing research based on the focus group method was conducted. The research results revealed that the most important barriers faced by such families are attitude barriers, followed by physical barriers and a lack of information. Starting from these results, we proposed the higher involvement of national authorities and other stakeholders in strategies meant to decrease or remove the barriers faced by people with disabilities and their attendants in order to develop responsible tourism. Such strategies could firstly involve the development of a primary school curriculum by including educational programs that are meant to avoid attitude barriers. Secondly, other stakeholders could use new emerging technologies, such as virtual reality, to offer tourists the opportunity to experience some tourism products and places before they travel.

The paper investigates the financial performance of the largest firms in Romania, by comparing foreign-owned subsidiaries (FOS) and domestic companies (DCs) over a decade. As such, the paper contributes to the literature on foreign direct investment (FDI) in transition economies, focusing on a country where few such studies have been conducted previously. Whereas most microeconomic research about Central and Eastern European (CEE) economies is concerned with the effects of FDI, this paper fills a gap in the literature by comparing the evolution of FOS and DCs performance during 2003–2012. This matter is approached in a novel methodological way, by applying the multiple correspondence analysis to explain the complex relationships between ownership, modes of entry and performance, as reflected in turnover and profit margins. One result is that FOS replaced DCs in top national positions, when taking into account size and turnover. However, although FDI via acquisitions financially outperformed DCs, the latter did better than greenfield FDI after the global economic crisis. Of all the factors analysed, the sector of activity resulted as having by far the most important influence on financial performance. The results have implications for policymakers who design FDI programmes for economic development.

It is a fact beyond doubt that humans, irrespective of race, age or gender, love to play, games being considered a tool for enjoying oneself and relaxing, but also for one's mental and physical development. The present paper addresses the concept of gamification, tightly connected to games and playing. The first part of the paper makes an introduction to this concept, with an emphasis on how it could bring motivation in education and learning. Gamification is considered critically, with reference to some problems that could occur for applications using gamification for learning. The second part deals with the zero-cost implementation process of the Interactivia.ro platform, which uses gamification to develop general knowledge, showing how a playful social experience is doubled by educational usefulness. We developed a list of features required for a successful implementation using open source or freemium modules and we applied them to several modules identified on the market. The statistical analysis of the date resulting from the implementation revealed that gamification increases web traffic. We also highlighted how Interactivia.ro can alter the virtual gamified experience into one applied in real life through partnerships and discounts offered to its users. The final part of the paper presents the conclusions and the possible openings for improving the current business model.

Tourism has long been recognized as a crime generator. This poses a dilemma in the sustainable development context: is continued tourist expansion sustainable if it generates increased law and order problems? Using the example of Brașov, Romania, this article considers the ways in which criminal justice agencies and the tourism sector have operated in partnership to ensure the security of both local residents and visitors. We argue that the success of the initiative depends on multi-agency working at the local level, but that the involvement of local residents is also crucial. This commitment may be tested as the nature of tourism changes. The research consists of an analysis of primary and secondary data. The results revealed that among the main security issues mentioned by tourists are not only robberies and other social and situational features that contributed to tourists feeling anxious or unsafe, but also the need to have access to good health services and easy access to money changing facilities, information centers, etc. Some improvements are suggested for the local Sustainable Development Strategy of Brașov.
