Prof. Dr. Viorel Ungureanu is a Professor of Steel Structures and Structural Mechanics at the Department of Steel Structures and Structural Mechanics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Executive Director of the Research Institute for Renewable Energy of the Politehnica University of Timisoara. He is also a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Steel Structures of the Romanian Academy, Timisoara Branch. He is engaged in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is a Ph.D. supervisor. His main research area is in the field of structural engineering with particular expertise in steel structural members and systems, cold-formed steel structures, structural analysis and stability, numerical modelling, and sustainable constructions. He is a member of the technical committee TC7 for cold-formed thin-walled sheet steel in buildings and chairman of TC14 for Sustainability and Eco-Efficiency of Steel Construction of the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS). He is the author or coauthor of more than 350 publications, including books, chapters of books, keynote lectures, papers, and articles in international and national conferences and journals, 65 of which have been published in prestigious international journals.
