He graduated in physics (Dipl.-Phys, MSc) at the University of Hamburg in 1996 and received his PhD at the Technical University of Freiberg in 2004. Between 2002 and 2012 he worked as a researcher at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Germany. He has more than 25 years of experience with solar cell characterization and modelling, as well as 10 years of experience with solar cell manufacturing with close industry collaboration. He has developed tools for the spatial characterization of solar cells, including systems for Light Beam-Induced Current (LBIC) topography and defect density topography. He has programmed scientific software to analyze the impact of defects on the solar cell performance. He is author of over 50 scientific publications. His aim is to promote the worldwide use of photovoltaics to overcome global climate change.
