Prof. Adebola Omowunmi Oyedeji is a professor at Walter Sisulu University, Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences, NMD Campus, Eastern Cape, South Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her work hinges on natural product chemistry with a special interest in finding the medicinal values of the terpenoid class of compounds in medicinal plants. She has built a multidisciplinary research team of physiologists, medical microbiologists, clinicians, Agric economists, pharmacists, biochemists, and marine biologists. She has been involved with numerous multidisciplinary collaborations within and outside Africa, which has produced master’s and Ph.D. graduates in a diverse field that meets workplace demands and society’s needs. She was awarded the WSU Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Researcher Award Medal (2020) and the WSU Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Community Engagement Award Medal (2020). She is a fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Professional Natural Scientists of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions, as well as the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), South African Chemical Institution (SACI), and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). She is also an affiliated member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).
