Dr. Rahul Kalhapure

Rahul Kalhapure is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Health Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute of Chemical Technology, University of Mumbai, India. He is an established Scientist in Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He is currently a Principal Scientist at Odin Pharmaceuticals, USA leading the development of complex injectable and ophthalmic drug products. Prior to his current position, he worked at the University of Texas at El Paso, USA as a Research Assistant Professor. From Jan 2013 to Feb 2017, he was a NRF Scientist at UKZN, South Africa working extensively on transdermal delivery of ARV drugs, and nanoantibiotics development to control infections by Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus. His research areas of interest include complex drug products, dendrimers, novel biocompatible materials, and their applications in nano-drug delivery. He has 03 US Patents and more than 50 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals to his credit. He is an Associate Editorial Board member of “Drug Delivery Letters” and a member of the Topical Advisory Panel of the journal “Pharmaceutics”. He is an active reviewer and has reviewed several manuscripts for journals such as Acta Biomaterialia, Journal of Controlled Release, Materials Science and Engineering C, Pharmaceutics, and International Journal of Pharmaceutics among others.
