Daniele Focosi is a hematologist currently employed at the North-Western Tuscany Blood Bank of the Pisa University Hospital. Previously, he practiced for four years as a transplant immunologist and immunogeneticist at the Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Centre of the Pisa University Hospital. He has a Ph.D. degree in clinical and fundamental virology and an M.S. degree in clinical trials in onco-hematology. He was also a research fellow at (1) the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Molecular Immunology Group, in Trieste; (2) the Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia, Italy; and (3) the University of Pisa Center for Clinical Use of Stem Cells (CUCCS). His main interests are onco-hematology, transfusion medicine, emerging viruses (Zika, SARS-CoV-2, avian influenza), and markers of functional immunocompetence (TTV). He has received awards from the European Federation of Immunogenetics, the Italian Society for Hematology, the Italian Bone Marrow Donor Association, the Italian Interregional Transplant Association, and the Italian Society for Experimental Hematology. He has authored 278 papers indexed in PubMed for an h-index of 43.
