Information

K. V. Suryabhagavan is a Professor at the remote sensing and geoinformatics stream, School of Earth Sciences, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa. He received the BSc, and MSc, degrees in Geology from Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam, India in 1992, 1994, respectively and a PhD degree in Geology in 2001 from the same institution. He received his PG. Diploma in Geosciences with specialization in Groundwater and MTech in Remote Sensing and GIS from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He also received Young Scientist award in 2003, from DST, Sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Prof. Surya is able to communicate in four languages. He mainly deals with the studies on application of remote sensing for geology, environmental modeling, climate change, and groundwater management. His scientific research has focused on developing methods to improve the integration of geoscience and environmental models with GIS from both the pedagogic and scientific perspectives and on formalizing the conceptual models of space acquired by scientists and humanities scholars, across a wide range of disciplines. In addition, dimensions in GIS, data acquisition and database management, LiDAR, and GIS mapping and digital image processing are his interests.
