Roy Moncayo has been engaged in thyroid research since 1976. His initial work was done with Prof. Rodlrigo Fierro-Benitez in Quito, Ecuador. The main topic at that time was iodine deficiency goiter. In 1979, he moved to Innsbruck, Austria, to continue work on thyroid disease. Since 1980, Helga and Roy Moncayo have carried out observational studies in relation to thyroid disease.
