Prof. Gianluca Serafini is currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Genoa. He obtained his degree in Medicine and Surgery, his training in Psychiatry (both summa cum laude), and his doctoral degree in Psychiatry from the same university. For almost ten years, he worked as a psychiatrist and researcher at Sant’Andrea Hospital in Rome, where, since 2007, he has been an active member of the Service for Suicide Prevention. He is part of the IASP Task Force for Emergency Medicine and Suicidal Behavior. He has been included in the 2010 Marquis Who’s Who in the World, the 2011 Marquis Who’s Who in the World, the 2012 Marquis Who’s Who in the World, and the 2013 Marquis Who’s Who in the World. He is a member of several scientific societies (New York Academy of Sciences; International Society of Affective Disorders; International Association for Suicide Prevention; Sociedad Española de Patología Dual; European Psychiatric Association (Neuroimaging section); and Società Italiana di Psichiatria). He is the author of more than 120 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, including original research articles, book chapters, and editorials. Since 2007, he has been a speaker at more than 90 national and international conferences. His research interests include neurobiology and neuroimaging of suicidal behavior and major affective disorders, psychopharmacology, and neuroplasticity.
