J. Paulo Vilas-Boas is a Full Professor of Biomechanics at
the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto, Portugal. He is also the Director of
LABIOMEP, a member of the governing council of the research unit CIFI2D, and President
of the International Council of Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming. He
received his Ph.D. at the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto in 1993. He was
a swimming coach for over 20 years and was elected three times as “Coach of the
Year” of the Portuguese Swimming Coaches Association. He was distinguished, in
2022, with the Geoffrey Dyson Award of the International Society of
Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS).
