Associate Professor of Medical Science and Senior Associate Dean of Biology Education. A member of the Brown faculty since 2008, Dr. Smith received a BS in Biology from The University of New Mexico (2001) and a PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology from The University of California, Santa Barbara (2006). Before arriving at Brown, she was a David H. Smith Conservation Research Fellow with the EcoHealth Alliance and University of Georgia where she contributed scholarship on the health and environmental risks of the global wildlife trade. Dr. Smith is a member of the Division of Biology and Medicine leadership team at Brown University. As Associate Professor of Medical Science, Dr. Smith teaches courses on Planetary Health to undergraduates and medical students and co-chairs the Planetary Health Curriculum Integration Committee at The Warren Alpert Medical School. She is recipient of the Brown University BioMed Dean's Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, Advising and Mentoring in the Biological Sciences and received the Early Career award from the International Association for Ecology and Health. She is a member of the Planetary Health Alliance.
