Dr. Hélio José Coelho-Júnior is a board-certified Exercise Physiologist and Postdoctoral Fellow in Geriatrics at the Department of Geriatrics and Internal Medicine (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart School of Medicine, Rome, Italy). He received his PhD (2016–2019) and master’s degrees (2014–2016) in exercise physiology at the University of Campinas. He performed a specialization training in human physiology at the University Estacio de Sá, in 2013. He received his bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology at the University of Mogi das Cruzes (2010–2014). During this period, he performed a two-year scientific training. In 2018, Dr. Coelho-Junior remained as a PhD visiting student for 6 months at the Department of Geriatrics, Neurosciences, and Orthopedics (“Agostino Gemelli” Teaching Hospital) of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy. He has received many awards for his work with older adults. Notably, his PhD thesis was awarded by the Brazilian federal government as one of the best three of 2019. His research focuses on the effects of different
types of exercise training on older adults with different conditions. Additionally, Dr. Coelho Júnior is interested in the association between health-related parameters, such as physical function and nutritional habits, and sarcopenia and physical frailty.
