Dr. Mo Wei (莫為) is an associate professor in the Department of Foreign Studies at Shanghai Maritime University. She is also a postdoctoral researcher in collaboration with Prof. Zou Zhenhuan in the History Department at Fudan University. Currently, Dr. Mo Wei is on a visiting appointment at the Department of Theology of Uppsala University, Sweden, where she is working with the Faculty of Church and Mission History Studies. In 2019, Dr. Mo Wei received her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies from the joint degree program offered by Shanghai Normal University and the University of Victoria in Canada. Her doctoral research focused on the French Jesuit mission in Shanghai and their role in the aesthetic renewal during the city`s modern transition. Dr. Mo Wei`s current research centers on the intellectual renewal of the Jesuits during Shanghai’s modern rise. She explores various aspects of Jesuit history, such as their scientific projects, textbook publications, and sinological endeavors, drawing from rare historical archives housed in institutions like the Zi-ka-wei Bibliotheca, Ricci Institute, and AFSI. Dr. Mo Wei has contributed to the field through a series of published articles, shedding light on the Jesuit mission in Shanghai during this transformative period and its wider significance.
