Theodoros Papaioannou is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA) and Head of the Biomedical Engineering Unit and Biostatistics Unit of the First Department of Cardiology at the Hippokration General Hospital of Athens. Ηe is the Director of the Department of History of Medicine and Medical Ethics of the Athens Medical School.
He received a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and his PhD from the Medical School (UoA). He is a Visiting Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, and "Carol Davila" University, Bucharest, Romania. He was an external consultant for Microsoft Research (Microsoft, USA); a Visiting Researcher at the Computational Biomedicine Lab, Department of Computer Science, Houston University, USA; and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Laboratory of Biofluid Mechanics and Biomedical Technology at the School of Mechanical Engineering (NTUA).
He has received scholarships from the State Scholarship Foundation, the Hellenic Society of Cardiology and the Hellenic Cardiology Foundation. He is the Vice-President of the Hellenic Society of Digital Medicine and the Hellenic Department of the Balkan Medical Union.
