Yuma Yamada is a Professor in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hokkaido University, and a pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy, Hokkaido University Hospital. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Hokkaido University in 2003, 2005 and 2008, respectively. After serving as an instructor in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hokkaido University, in 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor in 2009. He was also a pharmacist in the Disaster Medical Assistance Team from Hokkaido University Hospital for the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2016. He has been a scientific adviser for LUCA Science Inc. from 2019, a principal Investigator for Hokkaido University's Industry Creation Laboratories from 2020, and a FOREST program researcher for JSTAJ from 2021. He won the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan Award for Young Scientists (2014), Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan Award for Young Scientists (2014), the Young Researcher’s Award of the Japan Society of Drug Delivery System (DDS) (2015), and Ebert Prize Award of American Pharmacists Association (2022). He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2023. His main research interest is the development of mitochondrial DDS, nanoparticle packaging for various cargos (protein, nucleic acids, etc.), gene and cell therapy, and nano design of pharmaceutics for organelle targeting.
