Silvana has a Ph.D. in engineering–spatial analysis, at Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo (POLI–USP), with an M.S. degree in remote sensing (at the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research–INPE), and a degree in ecology from São Paulo State University, Rio Claro (UNESP). Her research interests include geoinformation, remote sensing, modeling, and spatial analysis to study socioenvironmental systems concerning biodiversity conservation, urbanization, and the spatial distribution of human population. Silvana is currently at INPE, as a researcher and professor in the Remote Sensing and Earth System Science Postgraduate Programs.
