Prof. Ilias Giannenas obtained his DVM in 2000, his PhD in 2004 and his DipECPVS in 2014 and is Director of the Laboratory of Nutrition (2018). He is a veterinarian and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2023). Previously, he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Thessaly (2006-2011), AUTH (2012-2018) and Assistant Professor (2018-2022). In 2017, he completed a sabbatical at Newcaste University to study the interaction between dietary fibre, dietary dilution and the effects on coccidiosis in broiler chickens. He is particularly interested in issues of applied poultry nutrition, the use of aromatic plants, plant extracts and essential oils as alternative growth promoters or natural anticoccidials. He is co-author of 3 books, 20 book chapters and more than 125 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has been invited several times to speak at national and international congresses or conferences and has presented more than 150 conference papers. He has been scientifically responsible or a member of the research group in more than 50 research projects and has co-operated with the feed industry and companies developing feed additives. He has been reviewer for several scientific journals, member of the editorial board of five international scientific journals and editor and reviewer for several international projects.
