Academic Visitor at Imperial College of Science and Technology (London, 1987/ 1992), Research Fellow at the University of Auckland (1995) and Visiting Scholar (2006) at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sydney and Director of the Directorate for the Evaluation of Medicines (2006-2009), at INFARMED, the National Competent Authority for medicines. At the present time is Vice-President of the Portuguese Society of Phytochemistry and Phytotherapy (SPFITO, 2009-2024), member of the Scientific Committee of ESCOP - European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy and Chair of the Biological Hazards Panel of the Scientific Council of ASAE- Food and Economic Security Authority (2015-2024), and Portuguese delegate for Emerging Risks European Network (EREN) of the European Food Safety Authority.
