1. Create your account.

• You can sign up with your academic email(preferred), password should be at least eight letters, with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number without spaces.
  
• Click the link in the email you received for validation. An account will be created for you.
• If you’re already part of the MDPI ecosystem ( Submission System, SciForum, Preprints, Encyclopedia, and MDPI.com), you can skip the paperwork and log in directly with your existing credentials

2. Set up your profile.

• Select your subject and keywords. This helps our algorithm introduce you to the right peers instead of random strangers.
• Fill in your basic info, including your title, name, and personalized profile URL.
• Upload a professional avatar. A clear photo acts as your digital handshake in the scholarly community.

3. Improve your profile.

• Add a short biography to better promote your profile/publications.
• Share your first "Hi" to the community via a Post.
• Add publications and contributions to show your academic experience.

Connecting your ORCID is one of efficient ways to keep your academic record synchronized without the manual data entry. Follow these steps to bridge your profiles:

1. Log in to SciProfiles and select "My Profile" from the top navigation bar to access your basic info page.
2. Locate the ORCID in your profile header and click the "Verify ORCID" button.
   
3. Log in to your ORCID account and authorize MDPI to access.

Encountering this error usually means you have a duplicate SciProfiles account. An ORCID can only be linked to one profile at a time. This is why an error message is triggered when attempting to associate the same ORCID with a second profile.

We recommend merging your profiles into a single academic powerhouse by following these steps:

1. Log in to SciProfiles using one email address
2. Visit the following link: https://sciprofiles.com/settings/profile-settings/email
3. Add the other email address as an additional email to your profile.

Once completed, you will have a unified MDPI profile with all your information consolidated, including ORCID.

1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner of the screen and select "Settings".
2. Click the “Email Settings” section.
   
3. Input your new(or old) email address and click “Add Email”.
4. To ensure security, click the link in the activation email sent to your new address. Once verified, you can even set this new address as your "Primary Email".

If the names of two profiles are not identical, the system assumes they belong to two different individuals.

To resolve this and proceed with your account merger, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to each account and update the profile names so they are exactly the same.
2. Once the names are identical, return to your Email Settings and add the additional email address again.

The most efficient way to add a publication is by adding additional emails under which it was published. The system will automatically include all publications associated with that email.

Other methods to add publications:

1. Import from ORCID
2. Search by DOI/PMID
3. Upload a BibTex file

Steps to Add Publications:

1. Click “My Profile” on the top navigation bar.
2. Select the "Publications" tab and click the "Add New Publication" button.
3. If your ORCID is linked and authorized, click “Import” to import from your ORCID account. Alternatively, choose “Search” (by DOI/PMID) or “Upload” (BibTex file).
   
4. After finishing importing from ORCID and parising the BibTex file, you will receive a Notification. During this period, you can browse the web normally.

1. Use the Search box in the top-right corner of the page to find the specific publication you want to claim.
2. Once you have located the article, click the three dots (more options) icon.
3. Select “Request Authorship”, and then select your name in the dropdown list. If you cannot find your name in the list, leave it as “New”.
   
4. Click “Request” on the popup page to confirm your action. The article will be displayed on your profile.

If you find a publication on your profile that is not yours, follow the steps below:

1. Go to "My Profile" and click on the "Publications" tab to view your current list.
2. Find the publication that doesn't belong to you and click the “Delete” button.
3. Click "Remove authorship" to finalize the removal from your profile.
   

If the publication cannot be removed, please contact us via the Help Center or email us at info@sciprofiles.com.

Please note that there is a delay for database updates. Please check again 30 min later.

Follow these steps to customize your experience:

1. Click the avatar in the top-right corner of the screen.
2. Select "Settings" from the dropdown list.
3. Click “Network, Publication, Post & System” to manage the notifications.
4. Select or deselect specific notification items based on your interests.
5. Decide whether you want to receive alerts via the website, email, or both.
6. Choose your preferred email frequency—whether you want updates in real-time, daily, or weekly.
   

Before you go, remember that SciProfiles is designed to help you connect without the social anxiety. If you simply wish to reduce noise, we recommend adjusting your Notification Settings instead.

If you still wish to proceed with closing your account, follow these steps:

1. Click the avatar in the top right corner of the screen.
2. Choose “Settings” from the dropdown menu.
3. Click “Close Account”.
4. Select a reason and confirm your action by clicking “Submit”.
   

Important Considerations:

• Once closed, your profile and academic achievements will no longer be visible to the public or other scholars.
• If you are closing an account because you have a duplicate, we strongly recommend merging the profiles instead. This preserves your publication history and ORCID synchronization in one place.
• Should you decide to return to the community, simply logging back in to SciProfiles and reactivate your profile exactly where you left off.

2. Choose “Settings” from the dropdown menu.
3. Click “Change Password” section. You can change your password here.
4. Input your details as prompted and click the "Change password" button to finalize the update.
   

Your primary email is where you receive your most important notifications, from new publication matches to potential collaboration requests. If you have recently moved to a new institution or simply prefer a different inbox, updating your primary contact address is a quick two-minute task.

1. Click your avatar in the top right corner of the screen.
2. Choose “Settings” from the dropdown menu.
3. Click the “Email Settings” section.
   
4. Locate the email you would like to use as your primary email and click the “Set as primary” button.

1. Choose “My Profile” from the top navigation bar to access to your basic info page.
2. Click next your name.
3. Start typing to choose your institution from the dropdown list and fill in your department (optional) information, then click “Add” to include the affiliation.
4. Click the “Submit” button to finalize the update.
   

Attention: The affiliation placed at the top of the list is considered primary. To change your primary, simply use the icon at the beginning of an entry to drag and drop it to the top of the list.

The institutional data in SciProfiles is sourced from ROR, some institutions may not be included. Follow these steps to put your institution on the map:

1. Choose “My Profile” from the top navigation bar to access to your basic info page.
2. Click next your name.
3. Click the institution search box, scroll to the bottom of the suggestions, and select "Add new institution".
4. A pop-up will appear requesting the Name and Location (e.g., City, Country) of your organization.
5. Click "Add new" to create the entry, then click "Add" to link it to your profile.
6. Don't forget to hit the "Submit" button to confirm your updated affiliation.
   

SciProfiles is a central hub for all MDPI platforms. Here is how it works:

• Automatic Match: Publications you have published with MDPI and Preprint.org or indexed by Scilit (our comprehensive, MDPI-powered database) will be automatically matched with your account and listed in your profile.
• Profile Merge: By adding all your past and present institutional emails as Additional Emails in your settings, you authorize SciProfiles to consolidate the publications in different email addresses.
• Manully Add: If a publication is not in our database or lacks key information, it will go to your Pending Submission list. You will need to complete the information of these publications before they can be added to your profile.

Please Note: To maintain the integrity of the scholarly record, only the verified authors of a publication are permitted to submit correction requests.

1. Go to your "My Profile" page and select the "Publications" tab to find the specific paper.
2. Click the three dots (more options) icon located next to the publication entry.
3. Choose "Correction" from the dropdown menu.
4. Update the incorrect fields in the provided form and click "Submit".
   

Scilit admins will process the correction request soon.

Your publications are added to your profile through three distinct pathways, each with its own verification logic:

• Automatic Match: When our system identifies papers you have published with MDPI or those indexed in the Scilit database, they are linked to your account and marked as "Verified" automatically by our algorithm.
• Manually Add: If you manually upload a publication (via DOI search or BibTeX), it will initially appear without the badge. These entries will be marked as "Verified" only after a SciProfiles Administrator reviews and confirms the publication details.

SciProfiles is a central hub for all MDPI platforms. Here is how it works:

• The MDPI Ecosystem Sync: Since SciProfiles is integrated with all MDPI platforms, any contributions you make within the MDPI network (e.g., serving as a Guest Editor or performing a peer review) are automatically identified and displayed on your profile.
• Profile Merge: If you have contributed to journals using different institutional or personal email addresses, those records may be "hidden" from your current profile. By adding these addresses as Additional Emails in your Email Settings, our system can bridge the gap and consolidate your contributions.
• Manually Add: Currently, our automatic synchronization is exclusive to the MDPI network. For prestigious contributions made to other publishers, you can manually add them to ensure your profile reflects the full breadth of your expertise.

Currently, SciProfiles only supports adding Editorial Role, Editorial Decison, Peer-Review records.

We are constantly evolving based on the needs of the global research community. If you wish to showcase other types of academic contributions, please contact us via the Help Center. We use your feedback to prioritize which new contribution types to support next.

The contributions under your profile come from two ways: MDPI sync & Manully Add.

• The contributions synced from MDPI are confirmed internally by our systems, they are marked with the "Verified" badge automatically.
• For contributions made outside of the MDPI network, at this stage, SciProfiles does not support an administrative review process for manually added contributions. Therefore, these entries will not display the "Verified" badge.

SciProfiles is designed to make collaboration happen. Whether you are looking for a mentor, a co-author, or a peer to discuss research ideas, our private messaging system allows you to reach out directly and securely.

To reach out to fellow scholars, follow these simple steps:

1. Visit the profile page of the scholar you’d like to contact.
2. Click the “Message” button.
3. Write your message and hit send, an email will be sent to the recipient.
   

Attention: Messages are private and visible only to you and the recipient. Happy networking!

SciProfiles is a social community for researchers and scholars. On SciProfiles, you can:

• Create your academic profile to showcase your publications.
• Follow other scholars and stay updated on the latest events in your network.
• Receive academic news tailored to your research interests.
• Share posts and engage in discussions with fellow scholars.
• Send messages to connect directly with other researchers.
• Record your academic contributions like editorial role, Peer-review and editorial decisions.

1. Visit the user profile you want to report.
2. Click the three dots button located next to the “Follow”.
3. Select the “Report“ button.

We are redesigning SciProfiles to focus on your core academic identity and improve your connection with the global academic community.

To achieve this, several features have been temporarily taken offline for a major structural upgrade starting July 18, 2026. We are rebuilding them from the ground up and will gradually bring them back in future updates. Please rest assured that your historical data is safe and has been either converted to profile posts, securely stored, or emailed to you as an archive.

To ensure your data remains visible and safe during the platform upgrade, your existing records for Conferences, Projects, and Public Discussion Groups have been automatically converted into regular Posts.

You can view all these historical records by visiting your profile page and checking your Posts feed.

Because these features involve your private data, we have securely packed your historical records into downloadable archives.

On July 18, 2026, an email with the subject "Your SciProfiles data archive is ready for download" was sent to your registered email address. Please check your inbox for the secure download links to keep your records during this transition.

No, you will not lose your data. The Messages and Bookmarks features are currently being rebuilt and will return in upcoming updates.

Your history is securely stored in our database and will be fully restored once the new versions are ready. In the meantime, to ensure you don't miss any important connections, all new messages will be sent directly to your registered email address.
