FAQs
  • How do I create a SciProfiles account?

    If you already have an MDPI account (account registered on platforms including SuSy, SciForum, Preprints, Encyclopedia, MDPI.com), you can directly log in to SciProfiles with your registered email and password.

    If you have never registered an account, you can set up a profile by following the instructions below:

    1. Go to https://sciprofiles.com/ and input your name and email address (your email address used for academic publications is preferred) to register.
    2. Click the link in the email you received for validation (HTML format allowed in your mailbox). An account will be created for you.

  • How to set up my Profile?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Input your Password if you do not have one. Passwords should has minimum eight characters, with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter and one number without spaces.
    3. Input your Research keywords (at least five). You can input one keyword and click “ADD” to add one by one, or add in batches by separating your keywords with semicolon.
    4. Select at least one Research subjects and one subdomain that most related to your research. Click “Save Info” to go to step two.
    5. Follow the prompt on the page to add your basic information for the account, click “Save Info” to finish the set up.

  • How do I change my Salutation and Name?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Choose “Edit My Profile” to go to your Basic Info page.
    4. Choose the correct salutation or edit your name in the box.
    5. Click the “Save Info” button above the “Research Keywords” to confirm the changes.

  • How do I link my ORCID?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click on the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Choose “Edit My Profile” to go to your Basic Info page.
    4. Click "VERIFY ORCID".
    5. Log in to your ORCID account and authorize MDPI to access.

  • How do I add additional Emails?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Go to your “Settings and Privacy” page.
    4. Click “Add New Email”.
    5. Input your new email address and submit.
    6. Click the link in the activation email you received to verify it.

  • How do I add/change my Photo?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the pencil icon at the top left corner of the page.
    3. Click “Upload Photo” to select the photo (maximum allowed size is 5.12 MB) you wish to upload.
    4. Click “Apply” to upload your photo.

  • How do I update my Research Keywords?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile” to go to the user information page.
    4. Edit the correct research keywords or choose research subjects/subdomains.
    5. Click the “Save Info” button to confirm the changes.

  • How do I add my Publications?

    The easiest way to add a publication is to add an additional email under which the publication was published, and the system will automatically add that publication together with all publications that have been published under that email.

    There are three main other ways to add publications to your profile: importing from your ORCID ID, searching by DOI/PMID or uploading a BibTex file. To add publications:
    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click “Publications” on the top navigation bar.
    3. Click “My Publications” and then “Add a New Publication”.
    4. If you have already linked your ORCID and authorized access, you can click “Import” to import from your ORCID account or choose “Search” (by DOI or PMID) or “Upload” (by bib. file). If you have not verified your ORCID account, click “Verify ORCID” first, import from your ORCID account or by Search DOI or PMID number, or Upload a BibTex file.

  • How do I Claim Authorship for a particular publication?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Search the publications you want to claim via the search box on the top right corner of the page.
    3. Find the article and click the title to go to the article page.
    4. Click “Request”, choose “Authorship” and then select your name in the dropdown list. If you can not find your name in the list, leave it as “new”.
    5. Click “Request” on the popup page to confirm your action. The article will be displayed on your profile after the authorship request is approved.

  • How do I Delete a Publication that is not mine?

    If you find a publicaiton in your profile which is not yours,

    1. Click “Publications” on the top navigation bar.
    2. Find the publication that is not yours, click “Remove” to remove it.
    3. Click “Remove Authorship” to confirm the delete.

    Please note that there would be delay for database updates. Please check again 30 min later.

  • How do I Close the Profile?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Click “Settings and Privacy” to go to the setting page.
    4. Click “Close Account” at the bottom of the page.
    5. Confirm your action by clicking “Delete”.
    Your profile will now be invisible to the public.

    Attention: Your profile will be activated once you log in to SciProfiles again.

  • Where can I find my account Settings?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner on the homepage.
    3. Click “Settings And Privacy” to go to the settings page. You can set your primary email, password, news feed preference and public visibility or close your account on this page.

  • How can I edit my Name/Salutation?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner on the homepage.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile” to go to the user information page. You can edit your name here.
    4. Click the “Save Info” button above the “Research Keywords” to confirm the changes.

  • How to change my Password?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner on the homepage.
    3. Click “Settings and Privacy” to go to the setting page. You can change your password here.
    4. Click “Change Password” to confirm the change.

  • How to change my Primary Email?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using the email that you would like to keep as your primary account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner on the homepage.
    3. Click “Settings and Privacy” to go to the setting page.
    4. Choose the email you would like to use as your primary email, and click the “Set as Primary” button.

  • How can I Close my account?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Click “Settings and Privacy” to go to the setting page.
    4. Click “Close Account” at the bottom of the page.
    5. Confirm your action by clicking “Delete”.
    Your profile will now be invisible to the public.

  • How can I edit/add my Short Biography?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click “My Profile” to go to your profile page.
    3. Click “Add Short Biography” to add or the pencil button on the right to edit your short biography.
    4. Click “Save” to confirm your edit.

  • How can I add my ORCID ID to my profile

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner on the homepage.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile” to go to the user information page.
    4. Scroll down the page; you will see a button “Verify ORCID”. Click “Verify ORCID” to link your ORCID account to your profile and allow MDPI to access your ORCID information.

  • How can I manage my Publications?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click “Publications” on the top navigation bar. You can check your publication list on this page;
    You can click “add new publications” to add more publications; Click “remove” to remove authorship of a single publication; or click “Pending Publications” under the “Publications Import” menu to check your pending publicatons list, provide additional information for publications in this list.

  • I am serving for more than one institute; can I add Additional Affiliation?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner on the homepage.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile” to go to the user information page.
    4. Click the “Add” button under the current affiliation to add additional affiliation information.
    5. Click the “Save Info” button above the “Research Keywords” to confirm the changes.

  • I just changed my research field; where can I edit my Research Expertise?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile”, scroll down to the Research Keywords part; you can add/edit your research keywords as well as the research subjects and subdomains.
    4. Click the “Save Info” below to confirm the change.

  • How do I add/edit My Career information?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile” to go to the user information page.
    4. Click “Add New Career” at the bottom of the page to add your experience or click "Edit" to update.

  • How do I add/edit Honors & Awards information?

    1. Log in to Sciprofiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the small gear icon at the top right corner of the screen.
    3. Click “Edit My Profile” to go to the user information page.
    4. Click “Add new award” at the botton of the page if you do not have any award information yet or click “Edit” to update the current information.

Publications
  • Where can I check my Publication list?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click “Publications” on the top navigation bar. You can check your publication list in the page.

  • Why some of my publications are automatically listed in my profile while others are not?

    SciProfiles serves as a hub for all MDPI platforms. All publications you published with MDPI or any publications indexed by Scilit, a database powered by MDPI, will be automatically matched with your account. Once matched successfully, those publications will be automatically listed in your profile. Publications that do not exist in our database or lack key information will go to the pending publications list. Those pending publications will need further validation from your side before they can be added to your publication list.

  • How do I import Publications?

    The easiest way to add a publication is to add an additional email under which the publication was published, and the system will automatically add that publication together with all publications that have been published under that email.

If you have already linked your ORCID and authorized access, you can click “IMPORT” to import from your ORCID account or choose SEARCH (by DOI or PMID) or UPLOAD (by bib. file). If you have not verified your ORCID account, click Verify ORCID first, import from your ORCID account or by SEARCH DOI or PMID number, or UPLOAD BibTex file.

  • How do I delete a Publication that is not mine?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click “Publications” on the top navigation bar and you will see your Publication list.
    3. Find the publication that is not yours and click “Remove” to remove it.
    4. Click “Remove Authorship” to confirm the delete.

Questions and Answers (Q & A)
  • What is Questions & Answers (Q & A)?

    Questions and Answers (Q & A) is a place that encourage users to help each others. Users can ask questions on SciProfiles to the community or answer questions raised by other users to help them. The system will also recommend some questions that you might be able to answer according to your expertise. Users can follow a question to get an update about all the answers to the question.

  • How do I start a Question?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the “Q & A” button on the top navigation bar.
    3. Click “Ask a question” button on the upper-right corner to start.

Discussion Groups
  • What is Discussion Group?

    Discussion Group is a function that allows you to initiate discussion on the SciProfiles platform with your peers about topics you want to discuss. You can either start a public Discussion Group that all registered academics will be able to join or start a private one in which only invited peers can participate.

  • How do I start a Discussion Group?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the “Q & A” button on the top navigation bar.
    3. Click the tab “Discussion Groups”; there is a “Create a Discussion Group” button on the upper-right corner.
    4. Click the button to start your Discussion Group following the cue words.

    If you are creating a private group, there will be an additional step for you to invite other SciProfiles users to join. You (the owner of the group) can also invite people who have yet not registered on SciProfiles to join the discussion by clicking “Add Participants”.

  • How do I manage my Discussion Groups?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click “Q & A” on the top navigation bar.
    3. Click the “Discussion Group” tab.
    4. Click “My Group” to find all your discussion groups.
    5. Go to the specific Discussion Group. By clicking the “Manage group” icon, you can “Edit”, “Remove” or “Change Owner” of a discussion group.

  • How can I get more people involved in my Discussion Group?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the “Q & A” button on the top navigation bar.
    3. Click the “Discussion Group” tab.
    4. Click “My Group” to view all your discussion groups;
    5. You could share a discussion group with others via email, Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook by clicking the “Share” button.

  • Where can I find more open public Discussion Groups on SciProfiles?

    1. Log in to SciProfiles using your MDPI account.
    2. Click the “Q & A” button on the top navigation bar.
    3. Click the “Discussion Group” tab. You can browse all the public discussion groups under the section “Public Groups”.
