Water quality is very dominant for humans, animals, plants, industries, and the environment. In the last decades, the quality of water has been impacted by contamination and pollution. In this paper, the challenge is to anticipate Water Quality Index (WQI) and Water Quality Classification (WQC), such that WQI is a vital indicator for water validity. In this study, parameters optimization and tuning are utilized to improve the accuracy of several machine learning models, where the machine learning techniques are utilized for the process of predicting WQI and WQC. Grid search is a vital method used for optimizing and tuning the parameters for four classification models and also, for optimizing and tuning the parameters for four regression models. Random forest (RF) model, Extreme Gradient Boosting (Xgboost) model, Gradient Boosting (GB) model, and Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost) model are used as classification models for predicting WQC. K-nearest neighbor (KNN) regressor model, decision tree (DT) regressor model, support vector regressor (SVR) model, and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) regressor model are used as regression models for predicting WQI. In addition, preprocessing step including, data imputation (mean imputation) and data normalization were performed to fit the data and make it convenient for any further processing. The dataset used in this study includes 7 features and 1991 instances. To examine the efficacy of the classification approaches, five assessment metrics were computed: accuracy, recall, precision, Matthews's Correlation Coefficient (MCC), and F1 score. To assess the effectiveness of the regression models, four assessment metrics were computed: Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Median Absolute Error (MedAE), Mean Square Error (MSE), and coefficient of determination (R2). In terms of classification, the testing findings showed that the GB model produced the best results, with an accuracy of 99.50% when predicting WQC values. According to the experimental results, the MLP regressor model outperformed other models in regression and achieved an R2 value of 99.8% while predicting WQI values.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) has become widespread these days all over the world. PD affects the nervous system of the human and also affects a lot of human body parts that are connected via nerves. In order to make a classification for people who suffer from PD and who do not suffer from the disease, an advanced model called Bayesian Optimization-Support Vector Machine (BO-SVM) is presented in this paper for making the classification process. Bayesian Optimization (BO) is a hyperparameter tuning technique for optimizing the hyperparameters of machine learning models in order to obtain better accuracy. In this paper, BO is used to optimize the hyperparameters for six machine learning models, namely, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Logistic Regression (LR), Naive Bayes (NB), Ridge Classifier (RC), and Decision Tree (DT). The dataset used in this study consists of 23 features and 195 instances. The class label of the target feature is 1 and 0, where 1 refers to the person suffering from PD and 0 refers to the person who does not suffer from PD. Four evaluation metrics, namely, accuracy, F1-score, recall, and precision were computed to evaluate the performance of the classification models used in this paper. The performance of the six machine learning models was tested on the dataset before and after the process of hyperparameter tuning. The experimental results demonstrated that the SVM model achieved the best results when compared with other machine learning models before and after the process of hyperparameter tuning, with an accuracy of 92.3% obtained using BO.

Lung cancer is an important global health problem, and it is defined by abnormal growth of the cells in the tissues of the lung, mostly leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Its timely identification and correct staging are very important for proper therapy and prognosis. Different computational methods have been used to enhance the precision of lung cancer classification, among which optimization algorithms such as Greylag Goose Optimization (GGO) are employed. These algorithms have the purpose of improving the performance of machine learning models that are presented with a large amount of complex data, selecting the most important features. As per lung cancer classification, data preparation is one of the most important steps, which contains the operations of scaling, normalization, and handling gap factor to ensure reasonable and reliable input data. In this domain, the use of GGO includes refining feature selection, which mainly focuses on enhancing the classification accuracy compared to other binary format optimization algorithms, like bSC, bMVO, bPSO, bWOA, bGWO, and bFOA. The efficiency of the bGGO algorithm in choosing the optimal features for improved classification accuracy is an indicator of the possible application of this method in the field of lung cancer diagnosis. The GGO achieved the highest accuracy with MLP model performance at 98.4%. The feature selection and classification results were assessed using statistical analysis, which utilized the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and ANOVA. The results were also accompanied by a set of graphical illustrations that ensured the adequacy and efficiency of the adopted hybrid method (GGO + MLP).

Breast cancer (BC) is a global problem, largely due to a shortage of knowledge and early detection. The speed-up process of detection and classification is crucial for effective cancer treatment. Medical image analysis methods and computer-aided diagnosis can enhance this process, providing training and assistance to less experienced clinicians. Deep Learning (DL) models play a great role in accurately detecting and classifying cancer in the huge dataset, especially when dealing with large medical images. This paper presents a novel hybrid model of DL models combined a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for binary breast cancer classification on two datasets available at the Kaggle repository. CNNs extract mammographic features, including spatial hierarchies and malignancy patterns, whereas LSTM networks characterize sequential dependencies and temporal interactions. Our method combines these structures to improve classification accuracy and resilience. We compared the proposed model with other DL models, such as CNN, LSTM, Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs), VGG-16, and RESNET-50. The CNN-LSTM model achieved superior performance with accuracies of 99.17% and 99.90% on the respective datasets. This paper uses prediction evaluation metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, F-score, and the AUC curve. The results showed that our model CNN-LSTM can enhance the performance of breast cancer classifiers compared with others with 99.90% accuracy on the second dataset.

Brain tumors are very dangerous as they cause death. A lot of people die every year because of brain tumors. Therefore, accurate classification and detection in the early stages can help in recovery. Various deep learning techniques have achieved good results in brain tumor classification. The traditional deep learning methods and training the neural network from scratch are time-consuming and can last for weeks of training. Therefore, in this work, we proposed an ensemble approach depending on transfer learning that utilizes pre-trained models of DenseNet121 and InceptionV3 to detect three forms of brain tumors: meningioma, glioma, and pituitary. While developing the ensemble model, some changes were made to the architecture of pre-trained models by replacing their classifiers (fully connected and SoftMax layers) with a new classifier to adopt the recent task. In addition, gradient-weighted class activation maps (Grad-CAM) are an explainable model to verify results and achieve high confidence. The suggested model was validated using a publicly available dataset and achieved 99.02% accuracy, 98.75% precision, 98.98% recall, and a 98.86% F1 score. The suggested approach outperformed others in detecting and classifying brain tumor MRI data, and verifying results using the explainable model achieved a high degree of trust.
