Blockchain is a revolutionary technology that is making a great impact on modern society due to its transparency, decentralization, and security properties. Blockchain gained considerable attention due to its very first application of Cryptocurrencies e.g., Bitcoin. In the near future, Blockchain technology is determined to transform the way we live, interact, and perform businesses. Recently, academics, industrialists, and researchers are aggressively investigating different aspects of Blockchain as an emerging technology. Unlike other Blockchain surveys focusing on either its applications, challenges, characteristics, or security, we present a comprehensive survey of Blockchain technology's evolution, architecture, development frameworks, and security issues. We also present a comparative analysis of frameworks, classification of consensus algorithms, and analysis of security risks & cryptographic primitives that have been used in the Blockchain so far. Finally, this paper elaborates on key future directions, novel use cases and open research challenges, which could be explored by researchers to make further advances in this field.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is impacting the world’s connectivity landscape. More and more IoT devices are connected, bringing many benefits to our daily lives. However, the influx of IoT devices poses non-trivial challenges for the existing cloud-based computing paradigm. In the cloud-based architecture, a large amount of IoT data is transferred to the cloud for data management, analysis, and decision making. It could not only cause a heavy workload on the cloud but also result in unacceptable network latency, ultimately undermining the benefits of cloud-based computing. To address these challenges, researchers are looking for new computing models for the IoT. Edge computing, a new decentralized computing model, is valued by more and more researchers in academia and industry. The main idea of edge computing is placing data processing in near-edge devices instead of remote cloud servers. It is promising to build more scalable, low-latency IoT systems. Many studies have been proposed on edge computing and IoT, but a comprehensive survey of this crossover area is still lacking. In this survey, we first introduce the impact of edge computing on the development of IoT and point out why edge computing is more suitable for IoT than other computing paradigms. Then, we analyze the necessity of systematical investigation on the edge-computing-driven IoT (ECDriven-IoT) and summarize new challenges occurring in ECDriven-IoT. We categorize recent advances from bottom to top, covering six aspects of ECDriven-IoT. Finally, we conclude lessons learned and propose some challenging

User authentication in wireless sensor networks (WSN) is a critical security issue due to their unattended and hostile deployment in the field. Since sensor nodes are equipped with limited computing power, storage, and communication modules; authenticating remote users in such resource-constrained environments is a paramount security concern. Recently, M.L. Das proposed a two-factor user authentication scheme in WSNs and claimed that his scheme is secure against different kinds of attack. However, in this paper, we show that the M.L. Das-scheme has some critical security pitfalls and cannot be recommended for real applications. We point out that in his scheme: users cannot change/update their passwords, it does not provide mutual authentication between gateway node and sensor node, and is vulnerable to gateway node bypassing attack and privileged-insider attack. To overcome the inherent security weaknesses of the M.L. Das-scheme, we propose improvements and security patches that attempt to fix the susceptibilities of his scheme. The proposed security improvements can be incorporated in the M.L. Das-scheme for achieving a more secure and robust two-factor user authentication in WSNs.

The separate design of vision algorithms and motion control algorithms in existing vision servo systems limits their application in high-speed and high-precision industrial scenarios. To address this problem, a vision-motion codesign method is proposed for integrating visual servo systems with motion controllers via real-time Ethernet connections. During the engineering design phase of our proposal, we developed a control kernel architecture to clarify the system design logic. Then, we proposed a runtime module for real-time trajectory generation to facilitate the unified deployment of different planning methods in the kernel. On this basis, we implemented a self-adaptive trajectory generation synthesis method capable of dynamically adjusting the motion resources for real-time interpolation. The experimental results demonstrate that in visual servo static tracking experiments with the SCARA robot, our proposed method has a faster response time and smaller impact than other mainstream trajectory generation methods in 1 ms real-time interpolation cycles.

As an extension of traditional vehicular ad hoc networks, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) enables information collection and dissemination, which brings a lot of convenience and benefits to the intelligent transportation systems. However, the booming IoV confronts a few challenges in the aspects of vehicle location privacy preservation and the authenticity of the transmitted information. In order to meet these challenges, we propose an efficient certificateless aggregate signature scheme with conditional privacy preservation in this article. Our scheme utilizes the technique of full aggregation to reduce the bandwidth resources and computing overhead. Besides, the conditional privacy preservation in IoV system is realized by using pseudonym mechanism. We demonstrate that the proposed scheme is secure against the Type-I and Type-II adversaries in the random oracle under the computational Diffie–Hellman assumption. In addition, the proposed scheme is compared with related works from aspects of computation cost, communication efficiency, and security requirements. The comparison results show that the proposed scheme is efficient, and it is suitable for resource-constrained environments.
