Chryssostomos Chatgilialoglu is affiliated with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. He earned a Doctorate in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Bologna in 1976. After spending two years as a postdoctoral fellow at York University in the UK and three years as a research associate at the National Research Council of Canada, he joined the CNR (National Research Council) in Bologna, Italy, as a permanent researcher. He served as Research Director at CNR from 1991 until the end of 2019. From March 2014 to May 2016, he was the Director of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at NCSR “Demokritos” in Athens, Greece. From February 2020 to October 2024, he was a Senior Research Associate at CNR. He co-founded the spin-off company Lipinutragen in 2005 and served as its President until May 2023. Starting in February 2019, he has been a Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Technologies at Adam Mickiewicz University.
His research focuses on free radical chemistry. He is responsible for introducing tris(trimethylsilyl)silane (TTMSS) as a radical-based reducing agent. Recently, he has developed biomimetic chemistry related to radical stress and its biomarkers. His work on the endogenous formation of trans-lipids, research on 5’,8-cyclopurine DNA lesions, and fatty acid-based lipidomics has gained international recognition. He has over 330 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with 13,721 citations and an h-index of 58 (Scopus, July 20, 2025).
