With the evolutionary development of latency sensitive applications, delay restriction is becoming an obstacle to run sophisticated applications on mobile devices. Partial computation offloading is promising to enable these applications to execute on mobile user equipments with low latency. However, most of the existing researches focus on either cloud computing or Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) to offload tasks. In this paper, we comprehensively consider both of them and it is an early effort to study the cooperation of cloud computing and MEC in Internet of Things (IoTs). We start from the single user computation offloading problem, where the MEC resources are not constrained. It can be solved by the branch and bound algorithm. Later on, the multi-user computation offloading problem is formulated as a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) problem by considering resource competition among mobile users, which is NP-hard. Due to the computation complexity of the formulated problem, we design an Iterative Heuristic MEC Resource Allocation (IHRA) algorithm to make the offloading decision dynamically. Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms the existing schemes in terms of execution latency and offloading efficiency.

A random walk is known as a random process which describes a path including a succession of random steps in the mathematical space. It has increasingly been popular in various disciplines such as mathematics and computer science. Furthermore, in quantum mechanics, quantum walks can be regarded as quantum analogues of classical random walks. Classical random walks and quantum walks can be used to calculate the proximity between nodes and extract the topology in the network. Various random walk related models can be applied in different fields, which is of great significance to downstream tasks such as link prediction, recommendation, computer vision, semi-supervised learning, and network embedding. In this article, we aim to provide a comprehensive review of classical random walks and quantum walks. We first review the knowledge of classical random walks and quantum walks, including basic concepts and some typical algorithms. We also compare the algorithms based on quantum walks and classical random walks from the perspective of time complexity. Then we introduce their applications in the field of computer science. Finally we discuss the open issues from the perspectives of efficiency, main-memory volume, and computing time of existing algorithms. This study aims to contribute to this growing area of research by exploring random walks and quantum walks together.

In the era of big data, recommender system (RS) has become an effective information filtering tool that alleviates information overload for web users. Collaborative filtering (CF), as one of the most successful recommendation techniques, has been widely studied by various research institutions and industries, and has been applied in practice. CF makes recommendations for the current active user using lots of users’ historical rating information without analyzing the content of the information resource. However, in recent years, data sparsity and high dimensionality brought by big data have negatively affected efficiency of traditional CF-based recommendation approaches. In CF, the context information such as time information and trust relationships among the friends is introduced into RS to construct training model to further improve the recommendation accuracy and user’s satisfaction, therefore, a variety of hybrid CF-based recommendation algorithms have emerged. In this study, we mainly review and summarize the traditional CF-based approaches and techniques used in RS, and study some recent hybrid CF-based recommendation approaches and techniques, including the latest hybrid memory-based and model-based CF recommendation algorithms. Finally, we discuss the potential impact that may improve the RS and future direction. In this article, we aim at introducing the recent hybrid CF-based recommendation techniques fusing social networks to solve data sparsity and high dimensionality, and provide a novel point of view to improve performance of RS, thereby present a useful resource in the state-of-the-art research result for future researchers.

In this era of the Internet of Everything (IoE), edge computing has emerged as the critical enabling technology to solve a series of issues caused by an increasing amount of interconnected devices and large-scale data transmission. However, the deficiencies of edge computing paradigm are gradually being magnified in the context of IoE, especially in terms of service migration, security and privacy preservation, and deployment issues of edge node. These issues can not be well addressed by conventional approaches. Thanks to the rapid development of upcoming technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and microservices, novel and more effective solutions have emerged and been applied to solve existing challenges. In addition, edge computing can be deeply integrated with technologies in other domains (e.g., AI, blockchain, 6G, and digital twin) through interdisciplinary intersection and practice, releasing the potential for mutual benefit. These promising integrations need to be further explored and researched. In addition, edge computing provides strong support in applications scenarios, such as remote working, new physical retail industries, and digital advertising, which has greatly changed the way we live, work, and study. In this article, we present an up-to-date survey of the edge computing research. In addition to introducing the definition, model, and characteristics of edge computing, we discuss a set of key issues in edge computing and novel solutions supported by emerging technologies in IoE era. Furthermore, we explore the potential and promising trends from the perspective of technology integration. Finally, new application scenarios and the final form of edge computing are discussed.

The field of artificial intelligence (AI) has shown an upward trend of growth in the 21st century (from 2000 to 2015). The evolution in AI has advanced the development of human society in our own time, with dramatic revolutions shaped by both theories and techniques. However, the multidisciplinary and fast-growing features make AI a field in which it is difficult to be well understood. In this paper, we study the evolution of AI at the beginning of the 21st century using publication metadata extracted from 9 top-tier journals and 12 top-tier conferences of this discipline. We find that the area is in the sustainable development and its impact continues to grow. From the perspective of reference behavior, the decrease in self-references indicates that the AI is becoming more and more open-minded. The influential papers/researchers/institutions we identified outline landmarks in the development of this field. Last but not least, we explore the inner structure in terms of topics' evolution over time. We have quantified the temporal trends at the topic level and discovered the inner connection among these topics. These findings provide deep insights into the current scientific innovations, as well as shedding light on funding policies.
