Ilya Gridnev received his Ph.D in 1989 from Moscow University. From 1990 to 1998, he was employed by the Russian Academy of Science (the Institute of Organic Chemistry and the Institute of Organoelement Compounds). After two postdoctoral stays in Japan (JSPS Fellowship, Hokkaido University) and Germany (A. v. Humboldt Fellowship, Göttingen University), he obtained his Dr. Sci. Degree (“Habilitation”) from the A. V. Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds, Moscow, Russia. From 1998 to 2007, he was employed as a Research Associate in the University of Rennes, France; Chiba University, Japan; and Oxford University, UK. From 2003 to 2007, he was an Associate Professor in Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan). From April 2007 to March 2012, he worked as an Associate Professor in the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and from April 2012 to March 2021, he worked again in Tohoku University.
In March 2021, he returned to Russia to take a position of Leading Researcher in the N. D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry. He also teaches as a Professor of the Chemical department of Moscow State University. His research interests cover organometallic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and NMR spectroscopy.
