Prof. Dr. Alexander Machado Cardoso is
an Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, Rio de Janeiro State
University—UERJ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was educated
in Brazil, graduating with a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemisty from UFRJ
in 2007 in partnership with Yale University. For the following three years, he
did postdoctoral research at Inmetro, Brazil. His research focuses on
environmental microbiology. His career was guided to the discovery of novel
