Dr. Vassilis G. Gorgoulis is a Professor and the Director of the Department of Histology–Embryology (DHE), Faculty of Medicine, National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He is also the Chair and Professor of Clinical Molecular Pathology at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, University of Dundee, UK; Adjunct Professor at the Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens; Honorary Professor at the Institute of Cancer Sciences, University of Manchester, UK; Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Surrey, UK; and an elected European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) member. His main research interests are as follows: mechanisms leading to genomic instability; the role of the DNA damage response (DDR) network as an anti-tumor barrier and mechanisms leading to escape from these barriers (apoptosis and senescence); the development of new compounds and methods to detect with precision senescent cells; the role of the replication licensing machinery in cancer progression; the development of machine learning algorithms to predict biological/drug responses. He has more than 360 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and more than 150 communications in International conferences, seminars etc., and has also contributed with more than 7 chapters in international text-books.
