Churn studies have been used for many years to increase profitability as well as to make customer-company relations sustainable. Ordinary artificial neural network (ANN) and convolution neural network (CNN) are widely used in churn analysis due to their ability to process large amounts of customer data. In this study, an ANN and a CNN model are proposed to predict whether customers in the retail industry will churn in the future. The models we proposed were compared with many machine learning methods that are frequently used in churn prediction studies. The results of the models were compared via accuracy classification tools, which are precision, recall, and AUC. The study results showed that the proposed deep learning-based churn prediction model has a better classification performance. The CNN model produced a 97.62% of accuracy rate which resulted in a better classification and prediction success than other compared models.

Aim: Determining oocyte quality is crucial for successful fertilization and embryonic development, and there is a serious correlation between live birth rates and oocyte quality. Parameters such as the regular/irregular formation of the cumulus cell layer around the oocyte, the number of cumulus cell layers and the homogeneity of the appearance of the ooplasm are used to determine the quality of the oocytes to be used in in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) methods. Material and Methods: In this study, classification processes have been carried out using convolutional neural networks (CNN), a deep learning method, on the images of the cumulus-oocyte complex selected based on the theoretical knowledge and professional experience of embryologists. A convolutional neural network with a depth of 4 is used. In each depth level, one convolution, one ReLU and one max-pooling layer are included. The designed network architecture is trained using the Adam optimization algorithm. The cumulus-oocyte complexes (n=400) used in the study were obtained by using the oocyte aspiration method from the ovaries of the bovine slaughtered at the slaughterhouse. Results: The CNN-based classification model developed in this study showed promising results in classifying three-class image data in terms of cumulus-oocyte complex classification. The classification model achieved high accuracy, precision, and sensitivity values on the test dataset. Conclusion: Continuous research and optimization of the model can further improve its performance and benefit the field of cumulus-oocyte complexes classification and oocyte quality assessment.

Caudal epidural anaesthesia is usually the most well-known technique in obstetrics to deal with chronic back pain. Due to variations in the shape and size of the sacral hiatus (SH), its classification is a crucial and challenging task. Clinically, it is required in trauma, where surgeons must make fast and correct selections. Past studies have focused on morphometric and statistical analysis to classify it. Therefore, it is vital to automatically and accurately classify SH types through deep learning methods. To this end, we proposed the Multi-Task Process (MTP), a novel classification approach to classify the SH MTP that initially uses a small medical tabular data set obtained by manual feature extraction on computed tomography scans of the sacrums. Second, it augments the data set synthetically through a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). In addition, it adapts a two-dimensional (2D) embedding algorithm to convert tabular features into images. Finally, it feeds images into Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). The application of MTP to six CNN models achieved remarkable classification success rates of approximately 90 % to 93 %. The proposed MTP approach eliminates the small medical tabular data problem that results in bone classification on deep models.

Background/Objectives: This paper aims to design an explainable and accurate ML framework to support the automatic classification of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) severity from structured patient data. Methods: For the experiment, an open-source dataset of 1037 samples was used. Following stratified partitioning, 305 samples were held out as the test set; the remaining training set (n = 732) was augmented to 1216 balanced samples via ADASYN, yielding an 80/20 train/test ratio relative to the final dataset (n = 1521). In order to solve the problem of imbalance associated with CTS cases of moderate and severe severity, the Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) technique was employed. The model’s predictive capacity was increased by means of feature engineering methods, such as polynomial transformations and clinically relevant interactions. Specifically, four ensemble learning models (XGBoost, Random Forest, LightGBM, and CatBoost) were optimized and ensembled with the use of a stacking approach with a base algorithm of LightGBM. The explainability of the model was ensured through SHAP and LIME analysis. Results: As a result, the stacking ensemble was able to reach a test accuracy of 91.15%, an F1-score of 91.13%, and an ROC-AUC of 0.9708. The proposed ensemble performed superiorly compared to any other individual algorithm while having stable performance across all severity categories. Conclusions: Through the explainability analysis, it was observed that such a classification model relies on important clinically relevant predictors, including cross-sectional area (CSA), duration of symptoms, pain level measured by the numeric rating scale of pain (NRS), and palmar bowing (PB).
