René M. Williams is assistant professor at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. His interest is the interaction of light and matter. He is currently working on photo-activated (hybrid nano) materials for energy and health to develop and study new thin-film materials for Si tandem solar cells (doping and luminescence spectroscopy of wide bandgap triple halide perovskites for tandem cells) as well as new
photo-active systems for medical applications (new photo-dynamic anti-cancer materials, activated by NIR light). Triplet excited states are one of his hallmarks. He has been recognized as one of the ten "Outstanding Reviewers' of 2016 for Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences and was awarded the Molecules Best Paper Award in 2014. He acted as Guest Editor for Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences in 2024 and is currently member of the editoral board for Molecules. His work is published in more than 100 publications. He held a Visiting Professorship in 2024 and in 2008 at the University of Angers, France.
