I am an Agronomist (from 2004 to 2008), MSc (from 2008 to 2010), and DSc (from 2010 to 2013) in Soil Science at UFLA (Federal University of Lavras, MG, Brazil). I spent a time (from 2012 to 2013) as Visiting Scholar in the Environmental Soil Chemistry Group at University of Delaware, DE, United States, where I carried out researches involving speciation of metal (e.g., Zn, Cd, and Pb) to understand metal mobility/availability in soils. Since 2014, I am professor at the Soil Science Department, UFLA, teaching mainly Soil Fertility and topics related to Environmental Soil Chemistry. In the research field, I have been working mainly with soil fertility, soil chemistry, and environmental soil chemistry. Briefly, my research areas have focused in the following topics: i) Speciation of metal and other elements/contaminants in soils and sediments, using both wet chemistry and synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques, such as x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) ; ii) Sorption behavior of different elements in soils, with emphases to tropical soils; iii) Agronomic biofortification of agricultural crops with essential elements for humans, as Se; iv) beneficial use of industrial by-products as adsorbent and amendments in contaminated sites or for agricultural purposes.
