An increasing number of genetic and metabolic anomalies have been determined to lead to cancer, generally fatal. Cancerous cells may spread to any body part, where they can be life-threatening. Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and its frequency is increasing worldwide. The main subtypes of skin cancer are squamous and basal cell carcinomas, and melanoma, which is clinically aggressive and responsible for most deaths. Therefore, skin cancer screening is necessary. One of the best methods to accurately and swiftly identify skin cancer is using deep learning (DL). In this research, the deep learning method convolution neural network (CNN) was used to detect the two primary types of tumors, malignant and benign, using the ISIC2018 dataset. This dataset comprises 3533 skin lesions, including benign, malignant, nonmelanocytic, and melanocytic tumors. Using ESRGAN, the photos were first retouched and improved. The photos were augmented, normalized, and resized during the preprocessing step. Skin lesion photos could be classified using a CNN method based on an aggregate of results obtained after many repetitions. Then, multiple transfer learning models, such as Resnet50, InceptionV3, and Inception Resnet, were used for fine-tuning. In addition to experimenting with several models (the designed CNN, Resnet50, InceptionV3, and Inception Resnet), this study’s innovation and contribution are the use of ESRGAN as a preprocessing step. Our designed model showed results comparable to the pretrained model. Simulations using the ISIC 2018 skin lesion dataset showed that the suggested strategy was successful. An 83.2% accuracy rate was achieved by the CNN, in comparison to the Resnet50 (83.7%), InceptionV3 (85.8%), and Inception Resnet (84%) models.

With the proliferation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in every walks of the society, including healthcare services; digitization and increased sophistication have been gaining pace. With increased patient volumes recording and management of patients data digital healthcare alternatives, particularly, Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) has gained prominence. However, traditional EHR based systems are plagued by data loss risks, security and immutability consensus over health records, gapped communication among constituted hospitals, inefficient clinical data retrieval systems among others. Blockchain has been developed as a decentralized technology that holds the promise to address the aforesaid facilities in EHR based systems. This paper presents a patient-centric design of a decentralized healthcare management system with blockchain based EHR using javascript based Smart Contracts. A working prototype based on hyperledger fabric and composer technology has also been implemented that guarantees the security of proposed model. Experiments with the hyperledger caliper benchmarking tool provides performance of metrics such as latency, throughput, resource utilization and so on under varied scenarios and control parameters and the results affirm the efficacy of the proposed approach.

Retinoblastoma is a rare and aggressive form of childhood eye cancer that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent vision loss and even death. Deep learning models have shown promising results in detecting retinoblastoma from fundus images, but their decision-making process is often considered a “black box” that lacks transparency and interpretability. In this project, we explore the use of LIME and SHAP, two popular explainable AI techniques, to generate local and global explanations for a deep learning model based on InceptionV3 architecture trained on retinoblastoma and non-retinoblastoma fundus images. We collected and labeled a dataset of 400 retinoblastoma and 400 non-retinoblastoma images, split it into training, validation, and test sets, and trained the model using transfer learning from the pre-trained InceptionV3 model. We then applied LIME and SHAP to generate explanations for the model’s predictions on the validation and test sets. Our results demonstrate that LIME and SHAP can effectively identify the regions and features in the input images that contribute the most to the model’s predictions, providing valuable insights into the decision-making process of the deep learning model. In addition, the use of InceptionV3 architecture with spatial attention mechanism achieved high accuracy of 97% on the test set, indicating the potential of combining deep learning and explainable AI for improving retinoblastoma diagnosis and treatment.
