Alexandre Bonatto is a professor at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA), mainly teaching a medical physics course. He holds the following academic degrees: a Bachelor's in Physics (2005), an M.Sc. in Physics (2008), and a Ph.D. in Physics (2013) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2013). He held a post-doctoral position at the Federal University of Paraná (2013), where he investigated the propagation of laser pulses in plasmas. He held a post-doctoral position at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (2014--2015), working at the Berkeley Lab Laser Accelerator (BELLA), where he investigated the use of passive and active plasma lenses to decelerate electron beams with reduced production of ionizing radiation and secondary particles. He held a post-doctoral position (2019--2020) at the University of Manchester and Cockcroft Institute, where he worked in the Novel Accelerators Group investigating plasma-based acceleration and deceleration. At UFCSPA, he is a member and coordinator of the Beam Physics Group (GFF), developing research on plasma-based accelerators, photodynamic therapy, proton therapy, very-high energy electrons (VHEE) radiotherapy, and new techniques for producing radiopharmaceuticals, making use of machine learning techniques to optimize results obtained from these techniques.
