A brain tumor is a disorder caused by the growth of abnormal brain cells. The survival rate of a patient affected with a tumor is difficult to determine because they are infrequent and appear in various forms. These tumors can be identified through Magnetic Resonance (MRI) Images, which plays an essential role in determining the tumor site; however, manual detection is a time-consuming and challenging procedure that can cause some errors in results. The adoption of computer-assisted approaches is essential to help in overcoming these constraints. With the advancement of artificial intelligence, deep learning (DL) models are being used in medical imaging to diagnose brain tumors using MR images. In this study, a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) EfficientNet-B0 base model is fine-tuned with our proposed layers to efficiently classify and detect brain tumor images. The image enhancement techniques are used by applying various filters to enhance the quality of the images. Data augmentation methods are applied to increase the data samples for better training of our proposed model. The results show that the proposed fine-tuned state-of-the-art EfficientNet-B0 outperforms other CNN models by achieving the highest classification accuracy, precision, recall, and area under curve values surpassing other state-of-the-art models, with an overall accuracy of 98.87% in terms of classification and detection. Other DL algorithms such as VGG16, InceptionV3, Xception, ResNet50, and InceptionResNetV2 are used for comparative analysis.

Medical expert systems are part of the portable and smart healthcare monitoring devices used in day-to-day life. Arrhythmic beat classification is mainly used in electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormality detection for identifying heart related problems. In this paper, ECG signal preprocessing and support vector machine-based arrhythmic beat classification are performed to categorize into normal and abnormal subjects. In ECG signal preprocessing, a delayed error normalized LMS adaptive filter is used to achieve high speed and low latency design with less computational elements. Since the signal processing technique is developed for remote healthcare systems, white noise removal is mainly focused. Discrete wavelet transform is applied on the preprocessed signal for HRV feature extraction and machine learning techniques are used for performing arrhythmic beat classification. In this paper, SVM classifier and other popular classifiers have been used on noise removed feature extracted signal for beat classification. Results indicate that the performance of SVM classifier is better than other machine learning-based classifiers.

As we delve into the Internet of Things, we are witnessing intensive interaction and heterogeneous communication among different devices over the Internet. Consequently, these devices generate a massive volume of big data. The potential of these data has been analyzed by complex network theory, describing a specialized branch, known as "human dynamics." In this extension, the goal is to describe human behavior in the social area in real time. These objectives are starting to be practicable through the quantity of data provided by smartphones, social networks, and smart cities. These make the environment more intelligent and offer an intelligent space to sense our activities or actions and the evolution of the ecosystem. To address the above-mentioned needs, this work presents a new concept of SmartBuddy that focuses on the analysis, the ecosystem provided by smart cities, wearable devices (e.g., body area network), and big data to determine human behaviors as well as human dynamics.

Fires usually occur in homes because of carelessness and changes in environmental conditions. They cause threats to the residential community and may result in human death and property damage. Consequently, house fires must be detected early to prevent these types of threats. The immediate notification of a fire is the most critical issue in domestic fire detection systems. Fire detection systems using wireless sensor networks sometimes do not detect a fire as a consequence of sensor failure. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) consist of tiny, cheap, and low-power sensor devices that have the ability to sense the environment and can provide real-time fire detection with high accuracy. In this paper, we designed and evaluated a wireless sensor network using multiple sensors for early detection of house fires. In addition, we used the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to avoid false alarms. To test the results of our fire detection system, we simulated a fire in a smart home using the Fire Dynamics Simulator and a language program. The simulation results showed that our system is able to detect early fire, even when a sensor is not working, while keeping the energy consumption of the sensors at an acceptable level.
