Claus Garbe is a University Professor of Dermatology at Eberhard Karls University in Tuebingen, Germany. He directed the Division of Dermato-Oncology and the Interdisciplinary Skin Tumour Centre for decades. He is also Head of the German Central Malignant Melanoma Registry and President of the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO). He began his medical career at the Free University of Berlin. After obtaining his MD in 1983, he was board-certified in dermatology and venerology in 1987 and was awarded his Ph.D. in 1990, specializing in the biology of melanoma cells. He remained at the Free University until 1995, when he was appointed University Professor of Dermatology and Head of the Division of Dermato-Oncology at Eberhard Karls University, Tuebingen.
