Ferromagnetism was observed at room temperature in monodisperse CeO2 nanospheres synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of Ce(NO3)3·6H2O using polyvinylpyrrolidone as a surfactant. The structure and morphology of the products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The optical properties of the nanospheres were determined using UV and visible spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL). The valence states of Ce ions were also determined using X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy. The XRD results indicated that the synthesized samples had a cubic structure with a crystallite size in the range of approximately 9 to 19 nm. FE-SEM micrographs showed that the samples had a spherical morphology with a particle size in the range of approximately 100 to 250 nm. The samples also showed a strong UV absorption and room temperature PL. The emission might be due to charge transfer transitions from the 4f band to the valence band of the oxide. The magnetic properties of the samples were studied using a vibrating sample magnetometer. The samples exhibited room temperature ferromagnetism with a small magnetization of approximately 0.0026 to 0.016 emu/g at 10 kOe. Our results indicate that oxygen vacancies could be involved in the ferromagnetic exchange, and the possible mechanism of formation was discussed based on the experimental results.

Pure CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 was successfully prepared by a glycine‐nitrate process using a relatively low calcination temperature and short reaction time of 760°C for 4 h. Fine‐grained CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramics with dense microstructure and small grain size were obtained after sintering for 1 h. The nonlinear coefficient of a fine‐grained CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramic calculated in the range 1–10 mA/cm 2 was found to be very high of ~16.39 with high breakdown electric field strength of 1.46 × 10 4 V/cm. This fine‐grained CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramic also exhibited a very low loss tangent of 0.017 at 20°C with temperature stability over the range −55°C to 85°C. The grain growth rate of the CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramics was found to be very fast after increasing the sintering time from 1.5 to 3 h, leading to formation of a coarse‐grained CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ceramic with grain size of about 100–200 μm. The dielectric permittivity of this coarse‐grained ceramic was found to be as high as 1.03 × 10 5 with a low loss tangent of 0.054.

In this work, a simple facile route for preparing an rGO/MnFe2O4 nanocomposite through a one-pot hydrothermal approach was demonstrated. Graphite oxide (GO) was prepared from graphite powder by a modified Hummers method. Fe(NO3)2 ∙ 9H2O and Mn(NO3)2 ∙ H2O were used as the precursors for the preparation of the rGO/MnFe2O4 nanocomposite. The formation of the rGO/MnFe2O4 nanocomposite was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Rama spectroscopy (Raman). The specific surface area of the prepared composite obtained by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis was lower than that of pure rGO but higher than that of pure MnFe2O4. Consequently, the electrochemical performance was investigated by using a three-electrode cell system in 6.0 M KOH. The results show that the specific capacitance was determined to be 190.3, 276.9, and 144.5 F/g at a scan rate of 10 mV/s, and 194.9, 274.6, and 134.4 F/g at a current density of 5.0 A/g for rGO, rGO/(5 mmol) MnFe2O4, and rGO/(10 mmol) MnFe2O4, respectively. These results suggest that the composite of MnFe2O4 nanoparticles on an rGO nanosheet can improve the capacitive behavior of the fabricated electrode, but the electrochemical properties are reduced when the MnFe2O4 concentration ratio is high.
