Biography

Francesco Spinozzi is Associate Professor of Applied Physics at the Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM), Ancona (Italy), Department of Life Science and Environment (DiSVA). He’s lecturer of the courses Molecular Biophysics (Master’s Degree in Applied and Molecular Biology), Mathematics (Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences) and Physics (Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences and Civil Protection). His scientific activity regards the analysis of structural properties of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids by means of small angle scattering techniques (SAS) of x-ray (SAXS) and neutrons (SANS). Proteins in solution are analysed in terms of size and shape, conformational transitions, folding/unfolding, interactions and aggregations, amyloid fibril formation, properties at the protein interface in the presence of cosolvents, high-pressure properties. Complex lipid or DNA systems in the presence of transition processes are studied by means of new structural and self-assembling models. Francesco Spinozzi has developed methods based on shape multipole expansion, group theory, Stone’s invariants expansion, Monte Carlo, density expansion of the radial correlation function. He has participated in numerous SAS experiments at synchrotron light sources (ESRF, ELETTRA, DIAMOND, DESY, LNLS) and neutron sources (ILL, LLB, MLZ, ISIS).
