Sławomir Filipek is a Head of Laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry and also at the Biological and Chemical Research Centre, both at the University of Warsaw, Poland. He studied Chemistry at the University of Warsaw, and he obtained an M.Sc. in 1985, Ph.D. in 1993, habilitation (associate professor) in 2004, and a full profess title in 2011. In the period 2001–2002, he was a visiting scientist at the Kris Palczewski lab, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, where he participated in the discovery of the oligomerization of rhodopsin. In 2002–2010, he was working on a contract job at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Warsaw, Poland, as a Head of the Laboratory of Biomodeling. At that time, his group developed a webserver GPCRM for homology modeling of G protein-coupled receptors. Prof. Filipek has published over 140 papers in primary scientific journals. His scientific interests are modeling membrane proteins, especially GPCRs, ligand-protein interactions, drug design, and studying dynamical aspects of proteins and their complexes.
