Frederico Ferreira, an Associate Professor (Bioengineering Department at IST), leads the Focus Areas in Process/Devices and Materials Engineering for Health and Sustainability (pMESH and dMESH) at iBB. He received a PhD from Imperial College London in 2024, and he holds an MBA obtained in 2008 and a 5-year BSc in Chemistry (two-years specialization in Biotechnology, 1999), both from Nova Lisbon. His research areas are (1) biomaterials and bioreactors, namely, designing electrical and magnetic stimuli-responsive nanotechnologies, scaffolds, and bio-inks for tissue engineering and cancer therapies; (2) sustainability separation and biorefineries, focused on pharmaceutics and biosurfactants production and purification; and (3) cellular agriculture, focused on fish-based food products with a lower ecological impact.
