Every mode of passenger transport plays an important, strategic role in the lives of a country’s people, its economy, its global business, and its tourism. In today’s competitive world, passenger transport relies heavily on its performance, which in turn is determined by service quality provided to customers. The evaluation of service quality in passenger transport is crucial to ensure acceptable quality standards for users and to improve the services offered to passengers and travelers. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the methods used to evaluate service quality in passenger transport in the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection, with a particular focus on liner maritime passenger transport. The results show that a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods is most frequently used in the selected articles. However, the number of scientific articles dealing with this topic has increased in recent years. This shows the growing interest in analyzing service quality for a particular mode of transport. The majority of articles are assigned to the areas of Transportation, Business and Economics, Science and Technology, Environmental Sciences, etc. Future research should focus on evaluating service quality through the impact of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, including relevant factors, on service quality in passenger transport.

The relatively new nautical market gave rise to a special kind of tourism. Nautical tourism as a system has the characteristics of a traffic system with all its peculiarities. Nautical tourism is steadily increasing. In countries nurturing this type of economic activity, nautical tourism has the characteristics of mass tourism. Nautical tourism is a complex system consisting of and using various forms of technical and technological processes. As such it is exposed to various risks. Therefore, this paper proposes a systematic approach to the development of safety measures in nautical tourism.

Each business faces large competition in the market, and it is necessary to adopt the most effective methodology as possible in order to obtain the best solution. Six Sigma (6σ) is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement. The tools of Six Sigma apply within a simple improvement model known as Define–Measure–Analyze–Improve–Control (DMAIC). This paper shows that implementing Six Sigma can be more effective in managing the vehicle fleet. The combination of mathematical, i.e., statistical basis and practice makes Six Sigma so successful. The Six Sigma project, implemented to reduce costs and increase the availability of a vehicle fleet in a selected company, can be widely applied in other similar enterprises.

The English language is becoming increasingly important in both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries. In the modern age, although English language skills are not the only criterion for career development, they are an indispensable tool for career advancement or obtaining a job. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate whether experience in the professional field can be considered a significant predictor of maritime students’ attitudes towards the need to learn English. For this purpose, students of undergraduate studies of Marine Engineering at the Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Split, with no work experience (N1=65) and students of the Special Training Programme of Marine Engineering at the Faculty of Maritime Studies with at least three years practical experience (N2=38) have been asked about their attitudes towards this issue. The participants completed a newly constructed questionnaire on the need for English as a professional language. The results show a very high reliability of the questionnaire, (r ranges from 0.83 to 0.95 with p<0.01; t0.67). Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney U test has revealed a significant difference in the attitudes between the groups of participants for five out of the six variables (p<0.01). Additionally, it can be concluded that experience is a significant predictor of attitude, which implies that English language learning is a necessity in maritime practice.

In the European Union, regulations and policies have been established to prevent and manage invasive alien species (IAS). The EU Regulation 1143/2014/EC, commonly known as the IAS Regulation, identifies species that pose significant ecological risks, requiring a coordinated response across all EU Member States. These species are classified as “species of Union concern” based on thorough risk assessments and standardized procedures within the EU. Accordingly, species are included in The List of Invasive Alien Species of Union Concern (the Union list), which is subject to regular updates through continuous species evaluations. Currently, the majority of the species on this list are terrestrial and freshwater with few marine species represented. The primary aim of this paper is to review the procedure for the inclusion of species in the Union list. The steps for inclusion are outlined by the IAS Regulation and associated legislation, which govern the risk assessment process. In addition, this paper synthesizes available scientific literature and official documents to summarize the impacts of Plotosus lineatus and Rugulopteryx okamurae on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The potential for future updates to the Union list is currently under consideration, and some marine species are within.
