Tomato cultivation is increasingly widespread, yet it faces significant challenges, particularly from plant diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, and insects. Addressing these diseases is crucial for ensuring the quality and yield of tomato crops. To support specialists in accurately identifying and managing these diseases, we propose an advanced automatic system for detecting and identifying tomato leaf diseases using sophisticated image processing techniques. Therefore, we proposed an approach that employs robust feature extraction methods, including the gray level co‐occurrence matrix (GLCM) and scale‐invariant feature transform (SIFT), coupled with a support vector machine (SVM) for adequate classification. We curated an extensive dataset of 2700 tomato leaf images, with a minimum of 300 images for each of the nine distinct disease classes. This comprehensive dataset facilitated the training and testing of various machine learning and deep learning models. The experimental results highlight our proposed approach’s exceptional accuracy and reliability, significantly improving the detection and classification of tomato leaf diseases. A thorough comparative analysis with contemporary state‐of‐the‐art techniques further validates the superiority of our system. Our findings suggest that this framework can significantly benefit tomato cultivation by enabling timely and precise disease management. Future research can explore integrating advanced deep learning algorithms to enhance the system’s accuracy in this multiclass classification challenge.

This article presents symmetry of sampling, scoring, scaling, filtering and suppression over deep convolutional neural networks in combination with a novel content-based image retrieval scheme to retrieve highly accurate results. For this, fusion of ResNet generated signatures is performed with the innovative image features. In the first step, symmetric sampling is performed on the images from the neighborhood key points. Thereafter, the rotated sampling patterns and pairwise comparisons are performed, which return image smoothing by applying standard deviation. These values of smoothed intensity are calculated as per local gradients. Box filtering adjusts the results of approximation of Gaussian with standard deviation to the lowest scale and suppressed by non-maximal technique. The resulting feature sets are scaled at various levels with parameterized smoothened images. The principal component analysis (PCA) reduced feature vectors are combined with the ResNet generated feature. Spatial color coordinates are integrated with convolutional neural network (CNN) extracted features to comprehensively represent the color channels. The proposed method is experimentally applied on challenging datasets including Cifar-100 (10), Cifar-10 (10), ALOT (250), Corel-10000 (10), Corel-1000 (10) and Fashion (15). The presented method shows remarkable results on texture datasets ALOT with 250 categories and fashion (15). The proposed method reports significant results on Cifar-10 and Cifar-100 benchmarks. Moreover, outstanding results are obtained for the Corel-1000 dataset in comparison with state-of-the-art methods.

Image captioning is a promising task that attracted researchers in the last few years. Existing image captioning models are primarily trained to generate one caption per image. However, an image may contain rich contents, and one caption cannot express its full details. A better solution is to describe an image with multiple captions, with each caption focusing on a specific aspect of the image. In this regard, we introduce a new number-based image captioning model that describes an image with multiple sentences. An image is annotated with multiple ground-truth captions; thus, we assign an external number to each caption to distinguish its order. Given an image-number pair as input, we could achieve different captions for the same image under different numbers. First, a number is attached to the image features to form an image-number vector (INV). Then, this vector and the corresponding caption are embedded using the order-embedding approach. Afterward, the INV’s embedding is fed to a language model to generate the caption. To show the efficiency of the numbers incorporation strategy, we conduct extensive experiments using MS-COCO, Flickr30K, and Flickr8K datasets. The proposed model attains 24.1 in METEOR on MS-COCO. The achieved results demonstrate that our method is competitive with a range of state-of-the-art models and validate its ability to produce different descriptions under different given numbers.
