Diaz-Sanchez is a PhD student at the College of Science and Arts from the University of Saskatchewan, who is working on determining the genetic structure, diversity and divergence of populations of the American dog tick, Dermacentor variabilis throughout its geographical range in Canada, eastern United States and Mexico.
