Dr. Chengdao Li is a Professor at the Centre for Crop and Food Innovation, Food Futures Institute, Murdoch University. He completed his Master’s Degree at Zhejiang University, China, in 1986 and his PhD in crop genetics and breeding at the University of Adelaide in 1997. Professor Chengdao Li has focused on developing new breeding technologies and integrating them to produce commercial barley varieties. He led the world’s trend of transitioning from conventional breeding technologies to utilizing doubled haploids, molecular selection, genomic breeding, and gene editing. He is an international leader in the consortium to decode the barley reference genome and to develop a pan genome, establishing the foundation for current genomic-based breeding.
