The landslide is a widespread and devastating natural disaster, posing serious threats to human life, security, and natural assets. Investigating efficient methods for accurate landslide detection with remote sensing images has important academic and practical implications. In this article, we proposed an LS-YOLO, a novel and effective model for landslide detection with remote sensing images. We first built a multi-scale landslide dataset (MSLD) and introduced random seeds in the data augmentation to increase data robustness. Considering the multi-scale characteristic of landslides in remote sensing images, a multi-scale feature extraction module is designed based on Efficient Channel Attention, Average Pooling, and Spatial Separable Convolution. To increase the receptive field of the model, dilated convolution is employed to the decoupled head. Specifically, the context enhancement module consisting of dilation convolutions is added to the decoupled head regression task branch, and then the improved decoupled head is to replace the coupled head in YOLOv5s. Extensive experiments show that our proposed model has high performance for multi-scale landslide detection, and outperforms other object detection models (Faster RCNN, SSD, EfficientDet-D0, YOLOv5s, YOLOv7, and YOLOX). Compared to the baseline model YOLOv5s, the AP of the LS-YOLO for detecting landslides has increased by 2.18% to 97.06%. The code and MSLD will be available at https://github.com/wenjieo/LS-YOLO.

Precipitation is scarce and evaporation is intense in desert areas. Groundwater is used as the main water source to develop agriculture in the oases. However, the effects of using groundwater on the ecological environment elicit widespread public concern. This study investigated the relationship between soil salinity and groundwater characteristics in Yaoba Oasis through in situ experiments. The relationship of the mineral content, pH, and main ion content of groundwater with soil salt was quantitatively evaluated through a gray relational analysis. Four main results were obtained. First, the fresh water area with low total dissolved solid (TDS) was usually HCO3− or SO42− type water, and salt water was mostly Cl− and SO42−. The spatial distribution of main ions in groundwater during winter irrigation in November was basically consistent with that during spring irrigation in June. However, the spatial distribution of TDS differed in the two seasons. Second, soil salinization in the study area was severe, and the salinization rate reached 72.7%. In this work, the spatial variability of soil salinization had a relatively large value, and the values in spring were greater than those in autumn. Third, the soil in the irrigated area had a high salt content, and the salt ion content of surface soil was higher than that of subsoil. A piper trilinear diagram revealed that Ca2+ and K+ + Na+ were the main cations. SO42−, Cl−, and HCO3− were the main anions, and salinization soil mainly contained SO42−. Fourth, the changes in soil salt and ion contents in the 0–10 cm soil layer were approximately similar to those of irrigation water quality, both of which showed an increasing trend. The correlation of surface soil salinity with the salinity of groundwater and its chemical components was high. In summary, this study identified the progress of irrigation water quality in soil salinization and provided a scientific basis for improving the oasis ecosystem, maintaining the healthy development of agriculture, managing oasis water resources, and policy development. Our findings can serve as a reference for other, similar oasis research.

With the continuous development of computer vision technology, more and more landslide identification detection tasks have started to shift from manual visual interpretation to automatic computer identification, and automatic landslide detection methods based on remote sensing satellite images and deep learning have been gradually developed. However, most existing algorithms often have the problem of low precision and weak generalization in landslide detection. Based on the Google Earth Engine platform, this study selected landslide image data from 24 study areas in China and established the DN landslide sample dataset, which contains a total of 1440 landslide samples. The original YOLOv7 algorithm model was improved and optimized by applying the SE squeezed attention mechanism and VariFocal loss function to construct the SE-YOLOv7 model to realize the automatic detection of landslides in remote sensing images. The experimental results show that the mAP, Precision value, Recall value, and F1-Score of the improved SE-YOLOv7 model for landslide identification are 91.15%, 93.35%, 94.54%, and 93.94%, respectively. At the same time, through a field investigation and verification study in Qianyang County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, comparing the detection results of SE-YOLOv7, it is concluded that the improved SE-YOLOv7 can locate the landslide location more accurately, detect the landslide range more accurately, and have fewer missed detections. The research results show that the algorithm model has strong detection accuracy for many types of landslide image data, which provides a technical reference for future research on landslide detection based on remote sensing images.

The distribution and characteristics of geological lineaments in areas with active faulting are vital for providing a basis for regional tectonic identification and analyzing the tectonic significance. Here, we extracted the lineaments in the Qianhe Graben, an active mountainous area on the southwest margin of Ordos Block, China, by using the tensor voting algorithm after comparing them with the segment tracing algorithm (STA) and LINE algorithm in PCI Geomatica Software. The main results show that (1) the lineaments in this area are mostly induced by the active fault events with the main trending of NW–SE, (2) the box dimensions of all lineaments, NW–SE trending lineaments, and NE–SW trending lineaments are 1.60, 1.48, and 1.44 (R2 > 0.9), respectively, indicating that the faults exhibit statistical self-similarity, and (3) the lineaments have multifractal characteristics according to the mass index τ(q), generalized fractal dimension D(q), fractal width (Δα = 2.25), fractal spectrum shape (f(α) is a unimodal left-hook curve), and spectrum width (Δf = 1.21). These results are related to the tectonic activity in this area, where a higher tectonic activity leads to more lineaments being produced and a higher fractal dimension. All of these results suggest that such insights can be beneficial for providing potential targets in reconstructing the tectonic structure of the area and trends of plate movement.
