I am Eva Schernhammer, a physician and epidemiologist specializing in the prevention of chronic diseases. I serve as Professor and Head of the Department of Epidemiology at the Medical University of Vienna and as Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. After beginning my career in hematology and oncology, I turned to public health research to better understand how our environment, behavior, and biology influence long-term health. I am particularly interested in circadian rhythms, sleep, shift work, and their links to cancer, cardiovascular disease, and healthy aging. My mission is to translate rigorous population research into practical strategies that help prevent disease and improve lives.
