Dr Matt Miller is a chemist working for the Cawthron Institute in Nelson, NZ. Matt has over 18 years of research experience looking into the chemistry and functionality of marine extracts (> 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers). Matt’s PhD was awarded a University of Tasmania’s Dean Commendation prize and the 2010 CSIRO medal for research achievement looking at fish nutrition in respect to omega 3 biosynthesis. Matt leads a team of researchers looking at the nutritional benefit of NZ Greenshell™ mussels under the High Value Nutrition National Science Challenge which is developing clinical evidence to support health and marketing claims. Further, he leads a project looking to develop novel cosmetics from starfish. Matt is the president of the Australasian section of the American Oil Chemist Society (AAOCS), a committee member of the NZ fats and oil group and the Program Chair of AOCS annual meeting. Matt is working with Aquaculture NZ to develop a standard for Greenshell™ mussel powders.
